Reporting to the Manager for the Summit Walk In program, the Family Counselor provides direct clinical assessment and support for families experiencing acute mental health crisis. The Family counselor provides brief interventions within the Summit: Jim & Marian Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience Walk In Program, and provides suggestions, resources and follow-up care that can be facilitated by the family within the patient home or community. The Family Counselors engage with families to identify pressing needs and resources to navigate through the mental health crisis of the patient and the family. Using a collaborative, focused, and supportive approach to short-term care. The Family counselor assists the family in identifying the most appropriate follow-up service for their specific needs. The Family Counsellor may provide short term case management for some clients to support their access to further care. The Family Counsellor may also identify the need for and support access to other discipline consultation within the Summit i.e. Psychiatric Consultation, Nursing, Social Work, or Peer Support. The Family Counsellor may provide practicum supervision to students who receive a placement at the Walk In Program.
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing, Psychology or Social Work. Registration with CARNA, CAP or the ACSW. Social Workers require the Psycho-Social Intervention Authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience working with children or adolescents with mental illness. Previous Walk In or other brief intervention service. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team setting. Completion of Brain Story Certification Preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving Training preferred. Suicide Risk Assessment Training.
