ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Gravel Truck Driver, you will transport crushed rock, sand, gravel, and other materials to and from specified locations, verifying the types of materials being transported and ensuring that they do not exceed weight restrictions. You must perform all work to regulated organizational, as well as provincial and federal standards, procedures, laws and regulations and adhere to the highest standards of safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Truck Driver is responsible for the following:
- Perform pre/post-trip inspection daily, including:
- Checking and adjusting brakes
- Physically check over the truck
- Check the insurance is valid
- Fuel the truck
- Ensure trip book is filled in
- Truck should be clean, inside and out
- Grease truck and trailer (weekly)
- Be always prepared for CVSE roadside inspection, including:
- Paperwork must include your vehicle inspection form.
- Pre-trips must include everything you find until it is fixed. Even if the mechanics aware of the fault. For example, “ABS indication” on dash.
- Make note of condensation inside headlamps.
- When greasing truck, also have thorough inspection with flashlight.
- Automatic slack adjusters – make sure to do full brake applications of 100 PSI throughout the day, i.e. when stopped at a light.
- Check tires throughout the day. Check between drive tires for rocks. Check for nails in tread.
- “Lever test” acceptable in BC but measuring stroke length/travel a better test for slack adjuster.
- Demonstrate CME Personal Protective Equipment standard by attending morning meeting in hard hat, high-vis safety vest, steel toed boots, eye protection, gloves
- Checks daily work schedule
- Completes daily paperwork in an orderly, logical, and legible fashion including all pertinent information
- Operates truck in a safe and legal manner and performs basic maintenance
- All maintenance, other than that performed at the start and end of a shift, needs to be authorized by the Chief Mechanic
- If equipment is down for repair during your shift:
- You must check in with your supervisor immediately
- This is not deemed as personal time and you may be assigned alternative tasks – you are expected to perform work that moves the company forward, while on company time
- If the repair is going to take a significant amount of time and there is no alternative work, your shift will end
- Ensure you have clear instructions for your next shift at work, from your supervisor, before leaving the site
- Promptly reports any accidents or injuries to management
- Keeps dispatch informed of status regularly
- Ensures customer satisfaction by remaining courteous and friendly
- Always Maintains personal safety gear (hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel toed boots)
- Always Maintains personal foul weather gear (rain gear, rubber boots)

- Frequently rotating (right/left) – check/see mirrors, blind spots

- Climbing – stairs/ladders; getting in and out of equipment
- Customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively with the public

QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class 1 BC drivers’ licence or Class 3 BC Drivers’ Licence with air brake endorsement
- Provide, clean drivers abstract
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- $35.00-$41.50 per hour, depending on experience and education
- Vacation pay (calculated at 4% of total wages earned)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Hours of work: generally, 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday
- Overtime required during busy construction periods
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada
