Overview
We are looking for a caring, patient, reliable, and energetic support worker for our 21-year-old son with autism.
He is a happy young man with a great sense of hummer who loves to laugh, ask lots of questions, and engage with the people around him. He enjoys getting out into the community, participating in activities, exploring new places, and staying active. He thrives with someone who is kind, positive, engaging, and enjoys building a genuine connection.
Duties
- Someone who can provide their full attention and remain actively engaged with him throughout the shift.
- The client must never be left alone at any time, whether in the community or during activities.
- We are looking for someone who uses positive, respectful, encouraging language and supports him with patience and understanding.
- We value a calm, supportive approach that acknowledges his feelings and helps him succeed.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe environment
- Engage clients in social activities and companionship to promote mental well-being
- Document care provided and report any changes in health or behavior to supervisors or healthcare professionals
- Assist with transportation to appointments or community activities if needed
- Follow care plans meticulously to ensure safety and meet individual needs
Qualifications
- Experience in supporting individuals with autism is an asset, but the most important qualities are compassion, reliability, patience, and a willingness to learn.
- Strong caregiving skills with a compassionate attitude towards clients’ well-being
- Experience with medication administration and basic nursing procedures is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and patience when working with diverse populations
- Valid driver’s license may be required for transportation duties
- Ability to work independently while following established care protocols
- Certification in caregiving or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory
