LEAD THE TEAM AND KEEP EQUIPMENT MOVING
We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead service operations across North America, ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of specialized rail equipment, heavy equipment, and fleet assets.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong service professional who can lead technicians, solve complex equipment issues, coordinate field operations, and deliver reliable service in a fast-paced, safety critical environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead, mentor, and develop Heavy Equipment Technicians and service personnel across shop and field operations.
- Oversee preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, troubleshooting, and field service for rail equipment, rail car movers, heavy equipment, and fleet assets.
- Manage technician scheduling, workload planning, resource allocation, and field support to maximize equipment availability.
- Monitor equipment downtime, repair trends, service performance, and recurring issues to drive improvements in reliability and efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance on complex repairs and troubleshooting.
- Ensure equipment and service activities meet company, customer, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage timesheets, vacation requests, scheduling, training, certifications, and other workforce administration for direct reports.
- Act as a technical liaison between customers, Sales, Operations, Procurement, and Leadership.
- Support customer requirements, service commitments, proposals, and equipment solutions.
- Ensure accurate service documentation, maintenance records, inspections, and regulatory paperwork.
- Support incident investigations, corrective actions, SOP development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to equipment replacement, capital planning, purchasing, and asset management decisions.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification; Red Seal preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy equipment service, rail equipment, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing technicians or field-based technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs, equipment reliability, and mobile field operations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing schedules, timesheets, and workforce administration.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, maintenance/service management systems, and other business software.
- Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean abstract; air brakes endorsement or CDL is an asset.
- Willingness to travel throughout Western Canada and North America and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Ability to be clean-shaven when required for site safety and respirator fit.

- Railroad industry experience.
- Experience with rail car movers or specialized inspection equipment.
- Experience managing remote or geographically dispersed teams.
- Cross-border work experience.
- Valid passport or dual citizenship.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time,including during travel and administrative work.
- Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in shop, field, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, reaching, and other physical activities associated with service operations.

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
