Field Service Technician / Technical Sales Support
The Field Service Technician performs onsite service activities including installation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and repairs. This role typically handles routine equipment issues independently and receives direction from senior technicians or management on more complex problems.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, customer-focused, and able to identify service, parts, consumables, and equipment opportunities while working at customer sites. The technician must represent the company in a professional manner and help build long-term customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and test customer equipment.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to service calls, preventive maintenance visits, installations, and emergency support requests.
- Interact professionally with customers and ensure their concerns are properly addressed.
- Provide basic operator training and equipment guidance to customers when needed.
- Read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Identify additional customer needs during service visits, including parts, PM programs, consumables, equipment upgrades, and replacement equipment.
- Recommend practical technical solutions that improve equipment reliability, uptime, safety, and performance.
- Communicate sales opportunities, customer needs, and equipment concerns to management or the sales team.
- Support quote preparation by providing accurate technical information, photos, part details, and customer requirements.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and represent the company as a trusted technical advisor.
- Create alternative solutions to technical problems when standard solutions are not available.
Requirements
- Experience with industrial equipment service, installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Electrical, electronic, mechanical, and basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Trade school diploma or college diploma preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
- Comfortable identifying sales opportunities without using a hard-sales approach.
- Able to recommend parts, service, preventive maintenance, consumables, or equipment solutions based on customer needs.
- Professional attitude, reliable work ethic, and ability to work independently.
- Compensation
- Competitive hourly rate of $25–$30 per hour, based on experience and technical ability.
- Paid travel time and mileage
- Additional commission or performance bonus available for qualified sales opportunities generated during service visits, including parts, preventive maintenance programs, consumables, equipment upgrades, and new equipment leads.
