Experienced Miraflex Pressman
Bulldog Bag Ltd., a well-established, family-owned manufacturer of flexible packaging, is looking for an experienced Miraflex Pressman to join our Printing Department in Langley, BC.
Our Printing Department operates Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) Miraflex flexographic printing presses. We are specifically looking for an experienced Pressman who has previous hands-on experience setting up and operating a W&H Miraflex press.
Direct W&H Miraflex operating experience is required for this position. Candidates without Miraflex press experience will not be considered.
This is a skilled Pressman position requiring the ability to independently set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot the press while maintaining high standards of print quality, productivity, safety, and waste control.
Compensation
$28.00–$32.00 per hour, based on Miraflex experience, technical knowledge, and qualifications.
Candidates with extensive Miraflex experience and demonstrated ability to independently handle complex set-ups, troubleshooting, colour and registration control, and production issues may be considered toward the upper end of the range.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently set up and operate W&H Miraflex flexographic printing presses.
- Review work orders, job specifications, approved samples, and production requirements before starting each job.
- Complete press set-ups and changeovers accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and install printing plates, sleeves/cylinders, anilox rolls, inks, and other required press components.
- Set and control print registration, impression, colour, web tension, print placement, and winding conditions.
- Monitor colour consistency, ink viscosity, registration, print quality, and film quality throughout production.
- Perform required quality inspections and production checks.
- Identify and troubleshoot print defects, registration problems, colour variation, impression issues, doctor blade issues, plate-related defects, web-handling problems, and tension issues.
- Make appropriate press adjustments to maintain approved quality standards.
- Monitor production speed, downtime, material usage, scrap, and waste.
- Minimize start-up waste, running waste, and unnecessary downtime.
- Ensure finished rolls meet required specifications for print quality, dimensions, winding, identification, and overall appearance.
- Complete production, quality, downtime, and material-usage documentation accurately.
- Coordinate with Ink, Prepress, Quality, Maintenance, Production Planning, and other departments as required.
- Provide day-to-day work direction and technical guidance to the Pressman Assistant assigned to the press.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all Company safety, food safety, GMP, quality, and operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Previous hands-on experience operating a Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) Miraflex flexographic printing press – REQUIRED.
- 5+ years of relevant flexographic printing experience preferred.
- Ability to independently set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot a Miraflex press.
- Strong knowledge of wide-web flexographic printing processes and principles.
- Strong understanding of print registration, impression, colour control, ink systems, anilox rolls, plate mounting, web tension, and winding.
- Ability to identify and correct common flexographic print defects.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to print quality.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret work orders, production specifications, and quality requirements.
- Good mathematical and measurement skills.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Good English communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Basic computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a production team.
- Ability to provide direction and technical guidance to a Pressman Assistant.
- Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts and overtime when required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to regularly bend, reach, and perform physical production duties.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely work around high-speed manufacturing and printing equipment.
Additional Assets
- Extensive W&H Miraflex operating experience.
- Experience printing polyethylene film and flexible packaging materials.
- Multi-colour, wide-web central-impression flexographic printing experience.
- Experience with colour measurement and colour-matching systems.
- Strong knowledge of flexographic inks and viscosity control.
- Experience troubleshooting complex print-quality and production issues.
- Forklift certification or previous forklift operating experience.
- Printing-related technical training, diploma, or certification.
- Experience training or mentoring Pressman Assistants or junior press operators.

Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts. Overtime may also be required depending on production needs.

This is a full-time, on-site manufacturing position. Candidates must have reliable transportation to and from the workplace for all assigned shifts.
