Job Summary
Responsible for the direct examination of product to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislation and customer specifications. Requiring a high level of attention to detail, the Quality Control Technician is responsible for strictly adhering to the organization’s quality assurance policies and identifying defects and/or production errors to prevent these materials from entering the supply chain.
Skills
- Direct working knowledge of various QA methodologies, requirements and audits (e.g. HACCP, Environmental Pathogen Monitoring, BRC, SQF, etc.).
- WHMIS & SDS training (an asset).
- Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques and Lean manufacturing (an asset).

Duties
- Provide support for food safety and quality system-related programs.
- Conduct Quality Control testing and technical support throughout the facility.
- Review documents and records for the release of raw ingredients and finished products.
- Test and report defects on incoming materials, packaging and finished product, as required.
- Interface with production material as assigned for defects as trained.
- Remove defective items from production, designating reason for removal.
- Perform internal QA audits that are compliant with corporate policies, practices and procedures.
- Assist with the maintenance of QA monitoring programs, including audits, controls and other qualifiers.
- Comply with Company QA programs for monitoring supplier quality, including audits, controls and other qualifiers.
- Support new product development and continuous improvement and by integrating quality control tools into processes.
- Promote and advocate quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
- Monitor and provide feedback on process change and improvement strategies that impact quality.
- Ensure product quality requirements are met or exceeded.
- Assist with testing, reporting, computer data entry and monitoring of new and recently introduced product.
- Update quality standards and processing conditions for new and modified products.
- Maintain and improve upon product retention and equipment calibration/validation programs.
- Lead process to maintain weights & measures quality requirements and enhance program to reduce product loss.
- Prepare samples for R&D or Sales requests.
- Coordinate novel raw material (ingredient & packaging) tests (in-lab & production floor).
- Provide support to QA Manager for all aspects of QA operations.
- Provide support to all departments related to daily questions on quality requirements and standards.
- Maintain & improve upon microbiological testing program.
- Provide feedback to customers/consumers.
- Create and maintain QA control documentation.
- Adhere to all prescribed Regulatory and Company requirements for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, Food Safety and Quality Systems, HACCP, Sanitation and GMP’s.
