Shop Floor Technician – Precision Finishing & Additive Manufacturing
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Shop Floor Technician to join our high-precision manufacturing team. You will ensure that machined parts meet strict industry specifications for critical sectors including energy, aerospace, defense, and motorsports. This role combines meticulous deburring, abrasive blasting, and quality inspection with hands-on support for our cutting-edge metal 3D printing operation.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift.
- Days: Monday to Friday.
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Precision Finishing & Machining
- Perform precise deburring and edge-breaking on complex, close-tolerance components using hand tools, files, and pneumatic equipment.
- Operate a horizontal metal bandsaw to cut raw materials and prepare stock for machining operations.
- Set up and operate abrasive media blasting, tumbling, and other finishing equipment to clean parts and prep surfaces for further processing.
Visual Inspection & Logistics
- Conduct visual inspections of parts to detect burrs, scratches, and surface defects to meet high-performance industry standards.
- Count, package, and label finished parts properly to protect high-value components during transit.
- Coordinate daily with shipping and receiving to ensure smooth material flow and inventory tracking.
Metal 3D Printing Support (On-the-Job Training Provided)
- Sieve and safely handle metal powders to prepare them for the additive manufacturing process.
- Operate depowdering equipment to clean and remove loose powder from printed metal builds.
- Safely cut finished parts off metal build plates using specialized saws.
- Perform post-print support removal and initial deburring on additively manufactured metal components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work space.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, or high-tolerance part-finishing.
- Basic ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and job travelers.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with high-standard quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) is a plus.
- Basic computer literacy. Prior ERP system experience is a bonus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Ability to stand and concentrate for long periods.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to coolants, metal chips, and powders.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $22.00 – $27.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
- Overtime: Time-and-a-half ($33.00 – $40.50) paid for hours worked over 40 per week.
