Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Child and Youth Worker to join our team at Melodia Homecare to support the emotional, social, and behavioral development of children and adolescents. This position involves working directly with young people in group homes.
As a Child and Youth Worker, you will be part of a supportive and dynamic team that is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and positive environments where youth can thrive. The position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young individuals.
Responsibilities
- Support youth in daily routines (meals, hygiene, education, recreation, etc.)
- Use trauma-informed approaches to de-escalate conflict and manage behavioral challenges
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention
- Facilitate life skills, educational, and recreational activities
- Maintain accurate documentation (incident reports, daily logs, medication records)
- Collaborate with internal staff and external service providers (clinicians, CAS, schools)
- Support safety protocols, including searches, curfews, and room checks
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and clinical supervision
- Model appropriate behavior and maintain professional boundaries
- Advocate for the youth's best interest in all areas of care
Qualifications
- Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent (Social Service Worker, Psychology, or related)
- Minimum 1 year experience working with vulnerable youth (placement experience acceptable)
- Valid First Aid & CPR
- CPI, UMAB, or equivalent crisis intervention certification (or willingness to complete)
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Broad sector check
- Child welfare check
- Knowledge of trauma, abuse and addiction
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (preferred)
