We operate a large-scale, integrated cherry and apple operation (>800 acres) with an on-site packing house, cold storage, and year-round shipping. We’re seeking an experienced Plant Operations Manager to lead packing facilities operations for both Cherry and Apples
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee Packing and Production Operations
Lead day-to-day packing operations, ensuring production runs efficiently, safely, and according to customer requirements, schedules, and quality standards.
- Manage Fruit Storage and Inventory
Oversee the operation and maintenance of regular and controlled atmosphere storage rooms, including storage conditions, inventory levels, room utilization, fruit movement, monitoring, and coordination of storage transitions throughout the season.
- Manage Operational Planning & Execution
Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, production schedules, storage capacity, and facility resources to ensure the company can meet packing and shipping commitments throughout the season.
- Lead Quality, Food Safety & Operational Compliance
Ensure operational teams follow company quality standards, food safety programs, regulatory requirements, storage protocols, and customer specifications, working closely with the appropriate quality and food safety personnel.
- Lead Teams and Drive Operational Efficiency
Provide leadership and accountability to operational staff while identifying and implementing improvements to productivity, labour efficiency, equipment utilization, storage management, waste reduction, processes, and overall operating costs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in Fresh Produce or Food Processing Operations
Proven experience managing operations in a packing, food processing, distribution, or similar production environment. Fresh produce experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong Operational Leadership
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, make decisions under pressure, and maintain accountability in a fast-paced environment.
- Production and Logistics Understanding
Strong understanding of production planning, inventory, labour requirements, shipping coordination, and the operational requirements involved in moving perishable products.
- Quality and Food Safety Knowledge
Working knowledge of food safety, quality control, regulatory compliance, and customer quality requirements within a food or fresh produce environment.
- Problem-Solving and Business Acumen
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify operational issues, develop practical solutions, manage costs, and continuously improve processes.
