Position Summary
The Landscape Construction Foreman / Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating landscape construction projects from mobilization through completion. Reporting directly to the General Manager , this role combines hands-on field leadership with project coordination responsibilities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standard of workmanship.
This position actively works alongside crew while overseeing daily site operations, managing schedules, coordinating equipment and materials, maintaining communication with clients and internal teams, and ensuring quality control throughout project execution.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, detailed planning, technical landscape construction knowledge, and a commitment to creating a culture built on trust, accountability, fairness, and safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
- Lead landscape construction crews to complete projects according to landscape architectural plans, specifications, and company quality standards.
- Coordinate all aspects of project setup, execution, and completion.
- Supervise daily field operations while remaining actively involved in installation work.
- Conduct site layouts and verify measurements, elevations, grading, and drainage requirements.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within project budgets.
- Perform quality control inspections throughout all project phases.
- Identify and resolve site challenges proactively.
Crew Management & Team Development
- Direct and supervise Lead Hands and crew members.
- Communicate daily objectives, expectations, and responsibilities clearly.
- Train, mentor, and motivate.
- Support employee development and continuous improvement.
- Foster a positive, professional team culture focused on accountability and collaboration.
- Conduct daily site meetings and reinforce safety practices.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Coordinate labour, subcontractors, equipment, and materials to meet production targets.
- Schedule crews and equipment to maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
- Communicate project updates with Project Managers, Operations, clients, and field teams.
- Organize deliveries and ensure materials are available ahead of project milestones.
- Adjust schedules based on weather, site conditions, and changing priorities.
Reporting & Administration
- Complete daily reporting and project updates through EXTech.
- Track project progress, production, and deficiencies.
- Document site conditions and communicate concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance requirements.
- Enforce company policies, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and equipment care.
- Conduct site hazard assessments and maintain safe work practices.
- Lead by example in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Report incidents and participate in corrective actions.
Equipment, Yard & Resource Management
- Manage jobsite tools, inventory, materials, vehicles, and equipment.
- Coordinate loading/unloading and daily fuel requirements.
- Report maintenance requirements and equipment deficiencies.
- Ensure trucks, trailers, tools, yard, and shop remain organized and professional.
- Minimize downtime through proactive planning and equipment management.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of landscape construction experience, including crew leadership experience.
- Ability to read and interpret landscape construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of:
- Hardscape installation
- Excavation and grading
- Drainage systems
- Retaining walls
- Interlock and natural stone
- Planting and finishing
- Strong communication skills with proficiency in English, email, and mobile technology.
- AR Licence is an asset with a clean driver abstract.
- Reliable personal transportation.
- Comfortable operating trucks and trailers.
Hours & Working Conditions
- Monday–Friday, typically 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Weekend work available but not required
- Outdoor work performed in varied weather conditions including heat, rain, dust, humidity, noise, and cold
