Our Maintenance Delivery department in our Rapid Transit Office is looking for a Signals Communication Specialist to join the team. You will monitor the quality of installation and maintenance of communications/signaling infrastructure to meet established regulatory, corporate, and contractual standards.
What will I be doing?
Field operational support
Develop and implement quality assurance programs, including audit plans, to meet external governing regulatory bodies’ provisions.
Research, evaluate, document, and report alternative technological approaches, options, and solutions to signal and/or communications problems.
Develop maintenance contract specifications and administers of Rail Service Provider contracts and analyze contractor performance.
Coordinate and conduct formal compliance audits and conduct efficiency tests.
Review Rail Service Provider Signal/Communication systems inspection records to ensure contractor compliance with established standards and best practices.
Back-office support
First level support troubleshooting for the Rail Traffic Controllers.
Collecting information to determine Location, Symptom, Cause and Effect of a problem.
Identifying and protecting the situation if there is a safety concern, equipment being damaged, and there is a potential loss of productivity.
Leveraging various signals and communications plans and schematics to assist in troubleshooting.
Gathering, interpreting, and disseminating information from various logging systems to identify the fault and take necessary corrective action.
Open, dispatch, update, and close trouble tickets to accurately record pertinent information.
Provide remote troubleshooting assistance for vendor trouble calls.
Remotely monitor and triage equipment using various SCADA systems.
Provide office support for emergent work blocks.
Participate in the investigation of all S&C accidents, major incidents, and infrastructure.
Field support, such as assisting in troubleshooting, asset auditing and training across the network as required.
Coordinate between Metrolinx and foreign railways for service affecting issues.
Assume “On-Call” responsibilities to support operational requirements.
Work Location is dependent on the Business continuity plan and training requirements .
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree in Engineering or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in railway signal/communications systems design, commissioning, and/or maintenance.
Technical and project management experience in large signals, crossing warnings, electrical, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and communications projects, and signal systems network design and architecture, routing, switching, and firewalls.
Experience in contract administration to oversee contractor negotiations and resolve invoice and contract interpretation disputes.
Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop standard procedures, and documents, and reports alternative technological approaches, options, and solutions.
A valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing is required.
Working Conditions:
This is a safety-sensitive role requiring strict adherence to safety protocols. Pre-employment and ongoing evaluations may apply as per company and regulatory standards.
This role is required to work 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights every two weeks as displayed in the table below.
This is a hybrid role that combines field-based work with office-based responsibilities.
