Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Assistant, Warehouse & Transportation to support our warehouse operations and transportation team. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that nutritious food reaches our community members and partners who need it most. As our Warehouse & Transportation Assistant, you will work closely with the Coordinator to manage daily warehouse operations, support inventory and distribution processes, and backfill deliveries as a backup driver. Your attention to detail, reliability, and care for both people and equipment will help us maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with receiving, sorting, storing, and distributing food and essential goods.
- Support warehouse workflow and daily operational priorities.
- Follow First In, First Out (FIFO) principles to ensure food rotation and safety.
- Help prepare orders for Community Food Share (CFS) Network members and food bank programs.
- Pick-up, safely load, and deliver food to donors, community partners, and programs as a backup driver.
- Track and monitor inventory, supporting data entry and reconciliation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and care for vehicles and tools, reporting maintenance needs promptly.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers, creating a positive and inclusive experience.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve warehouse processes and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications
- Experience in warehouse, logistics, distribution, or food handling environments (preferred).
- Experience in nonprofit or community service organizations (asset).
- Valid Class G driver’s licence with a clean abstract; experience driving vans or small trucks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and work in freezers, coolers, and warehouse spaces.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Forklift training and propane safety certification are assets.
