Temporary Registered Dental Hygienist
Gateway Dental is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to provide temporary coverage at our busy, privately owned general dental clinic in Lac La Biche, Alberta.
Our most immediate need is for coverage during September 2026, although additional recurring dates may be available through the fall and into early 2027.
We understand that hygienists may have different levels of availability. We can accommodate:
- Individual working days
- One or more days per week
- Consecutive 2–4 day blocks
- Several weeks of full-time coverage
- Recurring weekly or monthly coverage
- Short-term or extended temporary assignments
Even limited September availability would be appreciated.
Temporary compensation and support
- Temporary coverage rate of $75 per hour
- 6% vacation pay added to each paycheque
- Guaranteed scheduled clinical hours
- Established patient base and consistently busy hygiene schedule
- Hotel or temporary accommodation available for qualifying consecutive-day blocks
- Reasonable mileage or travel assistance available
- No evenings or weekends
- Support from experienced dentists, administration, dental assistants and sterilization staff
The $75 hourly rate is a premium rate offered specifically for temporary and urgent coverage.
A permanent position may be discussed separately if there is mutual interest. Any permanent role would require a new employment agreement and would be compensated under Gateway Dental’s permanent compensation structure. The temporary $75 hourly rate would not automatically continue into permanent employment.
Responsibilities
- Perform periodontal and oral-health assessments
- Provide scaling, root planing, periodontal maintenance and preventive hygiene care
- Take appropriate dental radiographs
- Provide oral-health education and home-care instruction
- Identify and communicate relevant clinical findings to the dentists
- Maintain accurate and complete clinical documentation
- Support a calm, respectful and positive patient experience
- Follow applicable infection-prevention and professional practice standards
- Work collaboratively with the clinical and administrative team
Qualifications
- Active registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Dental Hygienist in Alberta
- Current CPR certification
- Professional liability insurance
- Strong clinical and communication skills
- Reliable and comfortable managing a busy hygiene schedule
- Professional, compassionate and patient-centred
- Able to work effectively within a team environment
Experienced hygienists are preferred for temporary coverage, although newly licensed hygienists with strong clinical skills are welcome to apply.
