JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Manager, Mental Health and Addictions provides leadership and oversight for Stoney Trail Wellness Centre's mental health, addictions, first response nursing, community health, and integrated wellness services. This role supports culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and holistic approaches to care that promote mental wellness, healing, and recovery.
The Clinical Manager leads program development, quality improvement initiatives, team capacity building, and evidence-based clinical practice in mental health and addiction. The role advances strategic priorities established by the Health Director and ensures accessible, coordinated, and culturally safe services for individuals, families, and the community.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Manager, Mental Health and Addictions provides leadership, clinical oversight, and program management for mental health, addictions, and integrated wellness services within Stoney Trail Wellness Centre. The position supports multidisciplinary teams through evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, program development, staff mentorship, and culturally safe service delivery.
The successful candidate will oversee mental health and addictions programming, support staff development, promote trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches to care, and foster partnerships with community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, healthcare providers, and external agencies. The role requires strong leadership, clinical knowledge, and a commitment to supporting the health and wellness of individuals, families, and the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Program Development
· Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of mental health and addictions programs and service delivery models.
· Support integration of mental health, addictions, primary care, and community-based services.
· Guide quality improvement initiatives that strengthen trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.
· Develop and maintain orientation and training pathways for multidisciplinary mental health and addictions staff.
· Support strategic planning and program sustainability initiatives.
· Promote continuous improvement and best practices in service delivery.
Clinical Support & Oversight
· Provide clinical leadership, tools, and mentorship to support best practices in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, harm reduction, and addictions care.
· Support implementation of evidence-based and culturally grounded approaches, including land-based, traditional, and holistic healing practices.
· Promote a recovery-oriented, strengths-based, and client-centered model of care.
· Ensure staff are supported to work to their full scope of practice within mental health and addictions services.
· Support clinical excellence and adherence to professional standards of practice.
Health Education & Community Engagement
· Identify community needs related to mental wellness, substance use, and prevention.
· Guide development of education, awareness, and stigma-reduction initiatives for individuals, families, and the community.
· Strengthen partnerships with internal programs, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and external mental health and addictions services.
· Support community-driven approaches to healing, resilience, and wellness.
· Participate in community meetings, wellness initiatives, and outreach activities as required.
Professional Accountability
· Demonstrate leadership in trauma-informed, culturally safe, and evidence-based practice.
· Mentor staff in professional development, reflective practice, and ethical care in mental health and addictions.
· Promote safe, respectful, and culturally meaningful care environments.
· Support ongoing staff education, training, and capacity building initiatives.
· Ensure professional accountability and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Supervise and support mental health and addictions staff, including hiring, orientation, coaching, and performance management.
· Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and protocols specific to mental health and addictions services.
· Oversee reporting, data collection, clinical documentation, and performance indicators.
· Support responsible resource allocation, budgeting, and program sustainability.
· Participate in meetings, committees, and staff wellness initiatives.
· Prepare reports, correspondence, and other documentation as required.
· Support the overall goals and objectives of Stoney Trail Wellness Centre and Bearspaw First Nation.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
· Degree from a recognized health-related program.
· Registered Nurse (RN) designation is preferred.
· Current registration with an Alberta regulatory body is required.
Experience
· Minimum five (5) years of experience in mental health, addictions, and/or community-based care, preferably in a First Nation, Indigenous, rural, or remote setting.
· Minimum five (5) years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
· Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and supporting integrated health services is considered an asset.
Skills and Qualifications
· Strong knowledge and experience in mental health and addictions care, including crisis intervention, trauma-informed practice, recovery-oriented care, and harm reduction approaches.
· Understanding of Indigenous approaches to wellness, healing, cultural safety, and community-based service delivery.
· Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentorship, and staff development experience.
· Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
· Excellent verbal, written, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience with program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
· Strong knowledge of quality improvement principles and evidence-based clinical practices.
· Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, healthcare providers, and external partners.
· Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination abilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record systems.
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professional judgment when handling sensitive information.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation are required.
· Knowledge of First Nation health services, community wellness programming, and culturally responsive care is considered a strong asset.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

· Must maintain active registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory body.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle for community-based work.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
· Must comply with all Bearspaw First Nation and Stoney Trail Wellness Centre policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Hours per Shift: 7 Hours
· Shift Pattern: Full-Time
· Length of Shift Schedule: 35 Hours per Week
· Primarily office and community-based work environment.
· Frequent interaction with community members, clients, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, healthcare providers, and external agencies.
· Regular use of computers, electronic medical records, databases, and standard office equipment.
· Frequent attendance at meetings, case conferences, training sessions, workshops, and community events.
· Occasional travel within Bearspaw First Nation, Eden Valley, and surrounding communities may be required.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex situations in a fast-paced environment.
· Exposure to sensitive, confidential, and complex mental health and addictions situations requiring professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
· May be required to respond to urgent mental health, addictions, or community concerns outside of regular working hours.
· Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet operational and community needs.
· Must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
· Requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
· Ability to sit for extended periods and perform computer-based work.
