About the Position
Domrick Dollar Store & Bakeshop Ltd is a locally operated retail and food-service business in Red Deer, Alberta. We are seeking a reliable and experienced Cook to prepare and cook a variety of meals, prepared foods and baked food items while supporting the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining food quality, following food safety procedures and ensuring that food is prepared according to established recipes and production schedules.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook complete meals and individual dishes and food items.
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and production schedules.
- Monitor cooking times, temperatures, portion sizes and food quality.
- Maintain consistency in food quality, portioning and presentation.
- Assist with food preparation and production schedules.
- Maintain inventory and records of food, kitchen supplies and ingredients.
- Receive, inspect and properly store food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation and workplace safety requirements.
- Supervise and assist kitchen helpers as required.
- Portion, package and properly store prepared foods.
- Modify recipes or preparation procedures as required to maintain quality and consistency.
- Assist with preparation of baked food items as required by the business.
Employment Requirements
- Completion of secondary school or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Previous experience as a cook or in food preparation is required.
- Knowledge of basic cooking, food preparation and baking techniques.
- Food Safety Certificate, or willingness to obtain one upon hiring.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Ability to follow recipes, food preparation procedures and food safety requirements.
