University of Calgary Continuing Education (ContEd) is currently recruiting instructors (contract/term positions) for Certificate in Career Development and Academic Advising courses in the 2026-2027 academic year.
In support of the University of Calgary's core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.
Each year, ContEd serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors¿all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university.
The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs.
Position Description
These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).

ADL 220 Student Advising Foundations
Fall term: September 15 to November 9, 2026

ADL 221 Ethics for Career Development Professionals
Fall term: November 24 to December 14, 2026
Also, Winter/Spring/Summer 2027 (scheduling in progress)

ADL 210 Career Development Foundations
Anticipated term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027 (scheduling in progress)
Online Asynchronous or Online Hybrid delivery
Course delivery modality: Online Asynchronous and/or Online Hybrid (asynchronous with some live sessions)
Scope of Responsibilities (high level)

Develop or adapt course content based on approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
- Create effective lesson plans that incorporate real-world examples, applied learning activities, assessments, presentations, and evaluations.
- Use Desire2Learn (D2L) for course delivery, posting course materials, and communicating with students.
- Use Zoom to facilitate synchronous live sessions with interactive activities, where applicable.
Qualifications

A Master¿s degree in Education, Counselling, Career Development, Social Work, HR, Student Affairs, or a related field is required.

A professional certification in career development, career counselling, or academic advising (e.g. CCDP designation) is preferred.
- Previous experience teaching adult learners in online environments is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.

Experience in instructional design is an asset.

Proficiency in utilizing e-learning tools and platforms (LMS, video conferencing tools, etc.) such as Desire2Learn, Zoom, Teams, and similar is required.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in career development, academic advising, or a closely related field is essential.

Demonstrated knowledge of career development theories and practices, student advising principles, ethical and professional standards, and current trends in career development, academic advising, job search strategies, and assessment practices is preferred.
