Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Executive Director of RAH & Edmonton Emergency and Trauma & RAH Inpatient Surgery, this position supports surgical care at Royal Alexandra Hospital. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an essential member of an inter-professional health care team caring for patients across the continuum of surgical care, supporting patients with complex health needs, their families, and the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. This position is responsible and accountable for the provision of evidence-informed clinical practices in a high-risk tertiary level site. The successful candidate will be active in research activities and guide evidence-informed curriculum and education. Strong communication and leadership skills are integral to the success of this role. The incumbent will strive to be a clinical resource and leader to support optimal patient care.
Description:
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. You will function as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within a clinical specialty area. You will balance various roles depending upon the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of recent surgical nursing experience, including the care of patients with complex surgical needs across the perioperative continuum (pre-operative, acute post-operative, and discharge planning). Demonstrated expertise in surgical best practices, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives. Recent adult learning, education, and teaching experience required. Previous clinical educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and/or leadership experience within a surgical program, preferably in a tertiary care hospital. Experience leading evidence-based practice changes, interdisciplinary collaboration, program development, and outcome evaluation. Knowledge and experience working with diverse, vulnerable, and medically complex patient populations across surgical care settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in policy, evidence-informed practice, teaching and research. Trauma informed practice experience.
