Position Summary and Scope:
- You will report directly to the GM, or designee, and work closely with the management and other internal teams. As a Machine Builder, you will be responsible for the following
- Using your demonstrated experience, the fabrication, assembly, and completion of all Vacuum furnace builds including all related machinery assembly and maintenance.
- The use of a high level of quality, safety, and effectiveness to ensure appropriate production requirements and schedules are met.
- Contributor to efficient day to day shop operation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- In this core role, leadership and value-added contribution to the process and team.
- Responsible for the layout, assembly, and installation of furnace systems and related commissioning tasks.
- Efficient value-added interpretation of blueprints and schematics to determine appropriate work path.
- Use various fabrication equipment/methods, such as plasma cutters, lathes, and MIG/TIG welders, to complete tasks from pipe fitting, copper/brass braze, plumbing and small to large mechanical fabrication and assembly.
- Identify and resolve build challenges, making modifications/improvements interacting with the engineering team.
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures on relevant equipment to minimize downtime and cost by managing equipment efficiencies.
- Operate accessory equipment for pipe fitting (pipe beveling, pipe threading, pipe cutting, torch or plasma cutter, drill press). Industrial painting of equipment during tear down and reshipping.
- Review jobs before build and collaborate with engineering to obtain design clarification as required.
- Read and thoroughly understand detailed assembly instructions, engineering diagrams, hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, and parts lists to ensure the meticulous assembly through fit and alignment.
- Maintain all machines, plant equipment and facilities.
- Operate lifting devices such as cranes (overhead and/or jib) to complete large assembly installations.
- Support equipment installations off site, internationally as required. Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized workspace, following 5S.
Qualifications:
- 10-15 years experience in a machine building environment or equivalent.
- Experience in moving, assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of large machinery and equipment.
- Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- Ability to weld and operate all shop equipment and perform basic machining practices.
- Basic Shop Safety practises and Knowledge of duties under OHSA & WSIB
- Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics, engines, electrical and electronic systems, including schematics and diagnostics.
- Experience with heavy equipment rigging.
- Active training with Fork Truck, Scissor Lift, and Crane will be an asset.
- FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, and 433A will be an asset.
- Ability to travel.

- Heavy mechanical assembly tasks with collaboration; effective communication and reasoning skills are essential.
- Physical requirements vary but will include standard large machinery methods. Ability to lift a minimum of 60lbs on a regular basis.

- Monday to Friday (8:00am – 4:30pm), subject to change at manager’s discretion.
