Role Overview:
The Foot Care Nurse is a vital member of Absolute Homecare Soltuions Corp., reporting directly to the Care Coordinator. The Foot Care Nurse provides specialized foot care services to clients, including routine assessments, wound care, toenail trimming, and overall foot health monitoring. The role involves identifying potential issues such as infections or circulation problems and working with the Care Manager to ensure timely interventions. The Foot Care Nurse also educates clients on proper foot care techniques and provides advice to prevent future foot-related issues, always maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, dignity, and client comfort.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive foot assessments
- Perform routine foot care procedures such as trimming nails, treating corns and calluses, and managing wounds and diabetic foot ulcers
- Administer medications and topical treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Educate patients and caregivers on proper foot hygiene, injury prevention, and self-care techniques
- Document patient interactions accurately
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, podiatrists, and care managers to develop individualized care plans
- Assist in managing patients with complex conditions like dementia, senior care needs, or hospice requirements
- Maintain a sterile environment during procedures and adhere to infection control protocols
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and report any adverse reactions or complications promptly
Skills
- Proven experience in nursing home care, hospital settings, acute care, or home health environments
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to podiatry, wound care, and medication administration
- Strong patient care skills with an emphasis on compassion and professionalism
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics, seniors, dementia patients, or hospice clients
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to handle multiple cases efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of pain management strategies and case management principles is advantageous
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Certification in Foot Care Nursing
- Experience in Foot Care, Diabetic Foot Care, or Podiatry Nursing
- Excellent Communication Skills (both verbal and written)
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care
