We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Technician to join our field operations team. This role is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure, including aerial and underground fiber optic and coaxial cable systems. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a crew to deliver safe, high-quality telecommunications services to residential and commercial customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair aerial and underground telecommunications lines and cables, including coaxial and fiber optic systems.
- Install telecommunications drops and associated equipment from network distribution points to residential and commercial customer premises.
- Prepare, splice, terminate, test, and repair telecommunications cable as required to ensure proper signal transmission and network performance.
- Use telecommunications testing and diagnostic equipment to identify cable faults, signal loss, damaged infrastructure, defective connections, and other service or network issues.
- Carry out repairs, replacements, and corrective work required to restore or maintain telecommunications service.
- Read and interpret work orders, network drawings, maps, construction plans, and technical specifications to determine installation requirements and cable routes.
- Conduct pre-trip, pre-work, and job-site safety inspections; identify, document, and report hazards or abnormal site conditions.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, testing equipment, and small equipment required for telecommunications installation and repair work.
- Complete required field documentation, including work orders, photographs, test results, material usage, completion reports, and as-built information where applicable.
- Inspect completed work to ensure installations meet company, customer, project, quality, and safety standards.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and assigned materials in safe and serviceable condition.
- Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, dispatch, project coordinators, inspectors, and other field personnel regarding job status, technical issues, and site conditions.
- Respond to service calls and escalate complex, abnormal, or unsafe situations when additional technical or supervisory support is required.
- Follow all applicable health and safety regulations, company procedures, customer requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
- Travel to project locations throughout Ontario, including overnight or multi-day assignments when required.
- Work extended hours, evenings, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts as operational requirements dictate.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of directly related, hands-on work experience in the telecommunications industry.
- Diploma, certificate, technical training, or equivalent practical experience in telecommunications, electrical, electronics, fiber optics, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, or repairing telecommunications infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience working with fiber optic and/or coaxial cable networks.
- Ability to use telecommunications testing and diagnostic equipment appropriate to the work being performed.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, network drawings, maps, and technical specifications.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence, or provincial equivalent, with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project locations throughout Ontario, including overnight stays when required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces where required.
- Physical ability to safely lift and carry tools and equipment, climb ladders, and perform repetitive manual field tasks for extended periods.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and effectively as part of a field team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Assets (Preferred)
- Experience with fiber optic splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience using OTDRs, optical power meters, signal meters, or similar telecommunications testing equipment.
- Experience with FTTH/FTTx, RFoG, coaxial, or other broadband telecommunications networks.
- Experience with both underground and aerial telecommunications installations.
- Experience troubleshooting telecommunications service and network faults.
- Familiarity with utility construction practices, underground infrastructure, and safe excavation procedures.
- Experience completing field documentation, test reports, quality-control inspections, and as-built information.
- Relevant telecommunications, fiber optic, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, or other industry certifications.

Pay: $37.00 per hour
