Position Overview
Matec Solutions Ltd. is an electrical contractor providing industrial electrical maintenance, project work and service support at customer facilities.
We are seeking a skilled and dependable licensed 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician to join our team. The successful candidate will represent Matec Solutions Ltd. while providing maintenance shift coverage, completing industrial electrical projects and responding to scheduled and emergency service calls at customer locations.
This is a hands-on contractor position supporting active industrial facilities, including food-processing plants, meat-processing facilities and slaughterhouses. Candidates must be comfortable working in these environments and complying with all Matec Solutions Ltd. policies, customer requirements, sanitation procedures, food-safety standards and workplace-safety rules.
The role includes rotating shifts. Employees assigned to qualifying afternoon, night or other designated shifts will receive the applicable shift premium.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent Matec Solutions Ltd. professionally while working at customer facilities.
- Provide electrical maintenance shift coverage for industrial customers.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial electrical and control systems.
- Diagnose electrical, controls and equipment faults efficiently to minimize customer production downtime.
- Install, terminate, test and troubleshoot PLC input and output wiring.
- Work with industrial control panels, relays, contactors, motor starters, sensors, switches and control devices.
- Install, configure and troubleshoot variable frequency drives, electric motors and motor-control equipment.
- Install and maintain rigid conduit, EMT, PVC and other approved raceway systems.
- Measure, bend, install and support conduit in accordance with drawings, site conditions and applicable codes.
- Pull, route, terminate, identify and test power, control, communication and instrumentation wiring.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, control drawings, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, blueprints and equipment documentation.
- Complete electrical installations, equipment connections, plant modifications, upgrades and customer project work.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment and facility electrical systems.
- Respond to scheduled, after-hours and emergency service calls at customer locations.
- Identify the root cause of electrical and equipment failures and recommend appropriate permanent repairs.
- Verify completed work through inspection, testing and functional checks.
- Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, material usage, time records and job documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customer representatives, production personnel, supervisors, project managers and other trades.
- Coordinate work with millwrights, automation personnel, contractors and customer maintenance teams.
- Protect customer equipment, production areas, products and facilities from damage or contamination.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, company vehicles and assigned materials in safe working condition.
- Follow Matec Solutions Ltd. procedures, customer site rules, lockout/tagout requirements and all applicable electrical codes and regulations.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas that comply with customer sanitation and food-processing requirements.
- Participate in rotating shift, weekend, shutdown and emergency service coverage as scheduled.
- Perform other related industrial electrical, maintenance, construction and service duties as assigned.
Mandatory Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Hold a valid Ontario 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician licence.
- Hold a valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence in good standing.
- Be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Have demonstrated industrial electrical maintenance, construction and troubleshooting experience.
- Have experience wiring and troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.
- Have experience working with industrial controls, motor starters and variable frequency drives.
- Have strong conduit-bending, wiring, termination and installation skills.
- Be able to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, ladder diagrams and blueprints.
- Be able to safely use electrical meters, testing equipment, hand tools and power tools.
- Understand electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices.
- Be able to travel to different customer facilities within the assigned service area.
- Be available for rotating days, afternoons, nights, weekends, shutdowns and service-call coverage.
- Be able to work independently and make responsible decisions while representing Matec Solutions Ltd. at customer sites.
- Be able to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, supervisors and coworkers.
- Be able to complete service reports and other required documentation accurately and on time.
Applicants who do not hold a valid Ontario 309A licence and valid Class G driver’s licence will not be considered for this position.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in food-processing, meat-processing, slaughterhouse, manufacturing or other high-production industrial facilities.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric or similar PLC platforms.
- Experience with industrial sensors, safety circuits, instrumentation and automated production equipment.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting three-phase electrical systems, motors, disconnects, transformers and distribution equipment.
- Experience with preventive-maintenance programs and computerized maintenance-management systems.
- Experience completing service work as an electrical contractor at customer facilities.
- Current training in working at heights, elevated work platforms, first aid, lockout/tagout or other relevant industrial safety programs.
Schedule and Availability
This position requires flexibility to support the operating requirements of Matec Solutions Ltd. customers.
Work may include:
- Rotating day, afternoon and night shifts.
- Temporary or scheduled customer maintenance shift coverage.
- Weekend and statutory holiday coverage.
- Scheduled plant shutdowns.
- Overtime when required.
- Emergency and after-hours service calls.
- Changes in work location or schedule based on customer requirements.
Applicable premiums will be paid for qualifying afternoon, night, weekend or other designated shifts in accordance with Matec Solutions Ltd. policy.
Contractor and Customer-Site Expectations
Matec Solutions Ltd. employees work as contractors within customer-owned facilities. Employees are expected to:

- Comply with all applicable customer orientations, access procedures and site rules.
- Respect customer property, equipment, production schedules and confidentiality requirements.
- Communicate changes in scope, delays, hazards or additional work requirements to the appropriate Matec Solutions Ltd. supervisor.
- Obtain proper authorization before completing work outside the assigned scope.
- Maintain accurate records of labour, materials and completed work.
- Avoid disrupting customer operations beyond what is required to perform the work safely.
- Maintain professional conduct when communicating with customer personnel and other contractors.
- Follow all customer hygiene, sanitation, security, clothing and personal protective equipment requirements.
Food-Processing and Slaughterhouse Environments
Candidates must be willing and able to work in slaughterhouses, meat-processing facilities and other food-production environments.
This may include:
- Working around raw food products, animal-processing operations and production waste.
- Working in wet, cold, hot, noisy, humid or odorous environments.
- Following strict sanitation, hygiene, contamination-control and food-safety procedures.
- Wearing customer-required protective clothing, footwear, hearing protection, eye protection and other personal protective equipment.
- Cleaning and sanitizing tools or equipment before entering designated production areas.
- Following controlled-entry and restricted-area procedures.
- Working around washdown operations, conveyors, production machinery and moving equipment.
- Avoiding contamination of customer products, packaging and processing areas.
- Reporting any contamination concern, damaged equipment or unsafe condition immediately.
Applicants must be comfortable performing electrical work in these environments as part of their regular duties.
Physical and Working Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, climb and work in physically demanding positions.
- Work from ladders, scaffolds or elevated work platforms when properly trained and authorized.
- Work in confined or restricted areas when properly trained and authorized.
- Lift, carry and position tools, cable, conduit and electrical materials weighing up to 50 lb/23 kg.
- Work around active production equipment, vehicle traffic and changing site conditions.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment.
- Safely operate a company vehicle when assigned.

- Protect coworkers, customer personnel, other contractors and members of the public from hazards created by the work.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout the job.
