Position: Nuclear Design Engineer - Operations and Assessment
Location: Tiverton, ON (Hybrid 2 days remote)
Structure: Contract 6 months to start
Pay: $70.00 - $80.00 p/h inc. + HST

Deliverables

Provide technical engineering leadership supporting the design, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of nuclear plant systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant facility operations.

Evaluate complex technical issues, perform engineering assessments, develop recommendations, prepare engineering documentation, and coordinate implementation of modifications, procedures, equipment upgrades, and operational improvements.

Develop and maintain engineering procedures, technical specifications, operating instructions, testing documentation, reports, and regulatory submissions while supporting procurement, installation, commissioning, and field implementation activities.

Lead technical investigations, research initiatives, reliability improvements, vendor coordination, regulatory interactions, and cross-functional engineering activities while providing guidance, mentoring, and technical support to operations, maintenance, and project teams.
Experience Required

6–8+ years of engineering experience supporting the design, commissioning, operation, maintenance, or modification of nuclear generating stations or other highly regulated industrial facilities.

Current holder of OPG Design Engineer (DE) Qualification 33685, with demonstrated experience applying Engineering Change Control processes, technical evaluations, engineering calculations, and field engineering support within OPG Nuclear operations.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with strong knowledge of nuclear plant systems, engineering design, equipment reliability, commissioning, maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance.

Proven experience preparing engineering specifications, technical reports, operating procedures, procurement documentation, economic evaluations, research studies, and regulatory submissions while collaborating with organizations such as OPG, AECL, CNSC (formerly AECB), IAEA, EPC vendors, and engineering partners.

Strong technical leadership, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems, lead technical investigations, supervise engineering activities, support field implementation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
