CanAfro Research Institute advances research, advocacy, and policy work supporting African,
Caribbean, and Black (ACB) and other underrepresented communities in Canada and beyond, through
evidence-based research, public education, and systems change. We are currently running several
research projects.
Role Overview
We're seeking a Senior Research Associate to lead the design and writing of a comprehensive social
research report on issues affecting ACB communities in Canada. This role carries greater ownership
over research methodology and may include guiding junior researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead research design, methodology, and writing of the report
- Conduct and oversee research and analysis on issues impacting ACB communities
- Ensure accuracy and rigour; review junior researchers' work where applicable
- Collaborate with the CanAfro team on scope and timelines
Mandatory Qualifications
- Lived experience relevant to ACB communities in Canada
- PhD (or above) in social science, public policy, or related field
- 5+ years of research and writing experience, including significant prior experience leading research
projects
- Writing samples: peer-reviewed research, non-peer-reviewed research, and a comprehensive grey
report
- Strong research design, analytical, and writing skills
- Familiarity with anti-racism, immigration, and social justice issues affecting ACB communities
Assets (Not Mandatory)
- Quantitative/qualitative data analysis skills (Excel, SPSS, R, Python, NVivo)
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior researchers
- Publications focused on Canadian cases and examples are an advantage
