Job Overview
Homework Helpers will be responsible for assisting K-6 students with completing homework, in FRENCH (select schools) and/or ENGLISH from approximately 2:20pm - 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Experience working with children is considered an asset. The program runs September 09, 2026 until the last day of school, June 2026. Training will be provided (paid).
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Help gather children to homework tables
- Keep their specific table occupied while helping individually with homework. Worksheets and educational activities will be provided.
- Be prepared to assist students with homework and other educational activities
- Take instruction from Site Supervisor and assistant Site Supervisor
- Demonstrate commitment to LearnStar values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility within the work environment, when interacting with others and within the community.
- Be responsible for clean-up of daily program, including wiping down all surfaces, sweeping, mopping any spills, or water from snow or rain.
- Be a positive role model to staff, students, parents, families, etc.
- Create an atmosphere of safety, belonging and positive development for each child and their family.
- Ensure program materials and activities reflect cultural variance of program population.
- Be a role model to staff, children exemplifying LearnStar values, and maintain a high standard of work ethics.
- Be courteous and professional in dealing with parents
- Establish and maintain positive working relations with host school staff, especially the school administration, as well as and other LearnStar staff.
- Be familiar with and ensure staff adhere to the Policies and Procedures as provided by LearnStar.
- Wear appropriate attire and LearnStar lanyard daily
- Be a highly motivated, enthusiastic and responsible individual committed to assisting LearnStar reach its mission and goals.
LearnStar requires the following certification:
- Current First Aid and CPR training certificate
- WHMIS
- Current RNC Record of Conduct
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check
