S&R Sawmills has a long history of Custom Cutting in the Lower Mainland. We are a family run business that was established in 1963 and currently has a workforce of over 300 employees on a large strip of the Fraser River. Role Description:
Reporting to the Shift Foreman, Green Chain Puller employees are responsible for ensuring the steady flow of lumber coming out of the mill. This includes pulling and stacking lumber as per customer requirements, while following all company Safe Work Procedures.
Current available shift is Monday - Friday afternoons - 3:30pm - 12:00am
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Stack lumber coming out of the mill onto the correct loads
- Follow instructions on the cut sheets and S&R Sawmills’ load stripping policy
- Properly and safely build a lumber load, determine the width and length of the load by referring to the cut sheet
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ensure safe lifting and carrying technique when handling lumber and carrier blocks
- Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management or a member of the safety committee
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures
- Other duties as assigned by the Mill Supervisors
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Previous experience working at a Sawmill is an asset
- Previous experience in labour intensive or construction roles an asset
- Previous experience in a labour-intensive role an asset
- Physical demands require repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Strength, flexibility and endurance, working 8 hour shifts with few opportunities to rest
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Safety first attitude
- Strong work ethic
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work (Mill is transit accessible)
- Must be able to do shift work (Day shifts are 7:00am – 3:30pm, Afternoon shifts are 3:30pm-12:00am)
