Overview Fil-Trek Corporation is a leading manufacturer of industrial filtration equipment for customers around the globe.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic Estimating team. This role is crucial in preparing accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication projects by analyzing technical drawings, materials, and labor requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical design background, excellent organizational skills, and expertise in welding and fabrication cost estimation.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to determine material, labor, and production costs. Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for fabrication projects. Utilize SolidWorks to assess design feasibility and make cost-saving recommendations. Ensure compliance with ASME Section VIII and other industry standards. Work closely with engineering, sales, and production teams to optimize project designs and cost structures. Maintain an up-to-date database of material costs, labor rates, and supplier pricing. Assist in process improvements and cost-reduction strategies. Utilize SharePoint or other job tracking systems for project documentation and updates. Collaboration with Project Managers and Schedulers: Work closely with project managers and schedulers to ensure that jobs are staged on time according to project timelines. Provide regular updates on material availability and staging status and promptly notify them of any potential delays that may impact project schedules.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3-7 years of experience in mechanical design estimation within a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment. Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.). Strong understanding of welding processes, fabrication techniques, and ASME Section VIII standards. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail. Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documents. Experience with ERP/CRM systems for estimating and cost management.
