Title: Casual / On-Call Early Childhood Educators & Early Childhood Educator Assistants
Wage:
- ECE: $27/hr + Wage Enhancement
- ECEA: $22/hr + Wage Enhancement
The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society is seeking reliable and enthusiastic Casual / On-Call Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and Early Childhood Educator Assistants (ECEAs) to join our team at skəmxist sncəcmitłn Aboriginal Head Start Centre in Black Mountain.
About the Role
Working within a trauma-informed framework, casual staff provide support in our infant/toddler and 3–5-year-old classrooms as needed. Team members help maintain a safe, culturally grounded, and nurturing environment while supporting the overall well-being and development of Indigenous children.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for young children.
- Support daily programming and classroom routines.
- Incorporate Indigenous language, culture, and traditions into activities and interactions.
- Assist in delivering the six components of Aboriginal Head Start: Culture & Language, Education & School Readiness, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Parent & Family Involvement, and Social Support.
- Foster positive relationships with children, families, and community members.
- Follow licensing regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports in compliance with licensing regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Early Childhood Education Certification (ECE, IT/SN, or ECEA).
- Current BC License to Practice (for ECE positions).
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of knowing is a strong asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities is preferred.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Current FoodSafe Level 1 Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
