Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and reliable industrial working foreman to join our industrial construction team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a crew performing civil earthworks activities.
- Work alongside the crew while providing daily direction and oversight.
- Coordinate daily work activities with the Site Superintendent and client representatives.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and grade stakes.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.
- Plan daily manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
- Assign tasks based on worker skills and project priorities.
- Monitor productivity and maintain project schedules.
Safety Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture.
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings and hazard assessments (FLHA/JHA).
- Ensure compliance with site-specific gas plant safety rules and permit systems.
- Verify all workers have required certifications and PPE.
- Stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain housekeeping and environmental compliance.
Civil Earthworks Duties
- Oversee excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling operations.
- Supervise underground utility installations.
- Coordinate hydrovac operations around live utilities.
- Ensure proper compaction and testing requirements are met.
- Direct construction of gravel pads, roadways, drainage systems, and foundations.
- Coordinate culvert installations and ditching.
- Verify elevations, slopes, and grades using survey information.
Equipment Coordination
- Coordinate and if needed operate excavators, dozers, graders, skid steers, packers, loaders, and haul trucks.
- Ensure equipment inspections are completed daily.
- Communicate equipment requirements with project management.
- Monitor equipment utilization and minimize downtime.
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets client specifications and engineering requirements.
- Perform quality inspections throughout construction.
- Coordinate with surveyors and inspectors.
- Document deficiencies and corrective actions.
Communication
- Liaise with project managers, superintendents, inspectors, and client representatives.
- Attend daily coordination meetings.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, timesheets, and production records.
- Communicate schedule changes and field issues promptly.
Leadership
- Train and mentor labourers and equipment operators.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching.
- Foster teamwork and maintain positive crew morale.
- Resolve minor conflicts in the field.
Administrative Duties
- Complete daily field reports.
- Track labour hours and equipment usage.
- Record material deliveries and quantities installed.
- Assist with planning upcoming work activities.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of industrial civil earthworks experience.
- Previous foreman experience.
- Experience working on oil & gas or gas processing facilities.
- Strong knowledge of excavation safety and underground utilities.
- Ability to read construction drawings and survey information.
- Valid driver's license.
- Required industrial safety tickets (such as CSTS, WHMIS, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance Level II, First Aid, and any client-specific orientations).
