Job Goal:
Lifeguard
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Leadership Team, the lifeguard is responsible for actively guarding, monitoring and ensuring the safety of all participants utilizing the pool. The incumbent prevents and responds to emergencies throughout the facility, provides guidance to patrons on pool rules and safety, maintains a high level of cleanliness in the aquatics area and adheres to the mission and vision of both the Paperny Family JCC and Lifesaving Society.
Swim Instructor
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Leadership Team, and aid of the lifeguards, swim instructors are responsible for bringing forth a high-quality swimming lessons experience. Ensuring swimming participants are presented with a safe and fun learning environment that follows the expectation of the Lifesaving Society to set them up for success. The incumbent is responsible for patrons of all ages, who are assigned to them, provides guidance to patrons on both aquatics’ rules and water smart education. Swim instructors are also responsible for classified personal information and will ensure that this information remains private.
Qualifications:
- Current National Lifeguarding (NL) Certification mandatory
- Current Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) Certification mandatory
- Current First Aid/CPR “C”/AED Certification required
- Police Security Check and Vulnerable Sector Search current within last three years
- Previous guarding experience a definite asset
- Must be able to work flexible hours throughout the week
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Can lift and moves items weighing 25 lbs. or greater
- Carries out work in a noisy, hot and humid pool environment
- May be required to stand on deck for maximum 2 hours at a time
- Works with chemical hazards such as; pool chemicals and cleaning supplies
- Works varying shifts/overtime and may be required to be on call
- Works varying daytime, evening and weekend shifts
