- This position will require some shared time between both office locations in Listowel and Stratford Ontario for training purposes.

For more than 70 years, we have supported dairy producers through facility design, equipment installation, robotic milking systems, barn equipment, technical service and ongoing operational support.
Avonbank is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Financial Controller to oversee the company’s accounting and finance functions. Reporting directly to the President, the Financial Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, month-end and year-end accounting, budgeting and forecasting, cash-flow management, internal controls, financial systems and leadership of the finance team.
The successful candidate will work closely with the President and department managers to provide meaningful financial analysis and support operational and strategic business decisions. This position is part of Avonbank’s planned succession strategy and includes a structured transition and knowledge-transfer period with our long-standing Financial Controller before their retirement.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or CPA candidate who is ready to expand their leadership responsibilities and grow into full ownership of the finance function.
This is an on-site position requiring regular time at both Avonbank’s Listowel and Stratford offices.
- Oversee monthly and annual financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports and supporting schedules.
- Prepare month-end adjusting entries in Avonbank’s Spire ERP system, including labour allocations, inventory releases, accruals, intercompany transactions and amortization.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy, account reconciliations and supporting financial records.
- Work with external accountants to prepare year-end review-engagement financial statements.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and financial modelling.
- Develop and monitor financial and operational key performance indicators.
- Provide financial analysis, insights and recommendations to the President and management team.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, banking requirements and overall company liquidity.
- Support financial planning for capital expenditures, financing and other significant business decisions.
- Oversee inventory accounting and related financial controls across equipment, parts and service operations.
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and support accurate reporting.
- Work with external advisors to support tax compliance, government reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial systems, reporting and operational efficiency.
- Lead, mentor and support members of the finance and accounting team. • Collaborate with managers across departments to strengthen financial understanding, accountability and decision-making.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.
- CPA designation, enrolment in the CPA program or demonstrated progress toward a CPA designation is preferred.
- Three to five years of progressive accounting, finance or financial-management experience.
- Experience with financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month-end and year-end close, adjusting entries, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis.
- Experience in agriculture, an equipment dealership, distribution, manufacturing, construction or another inventory-based business is strongly preferred.
- Previous leadership, team-supervision or employee-mentoring experience is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, inventory accounting and Canadian tax and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with accounting software or ERP systems.
- Experience with Spire business-management and accounting software is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate financial information into clear and practical business insights.
- High degree of integrity, discretion, accuracy and professional judgment.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly between the Listowel and Stratford offices.
Salary: $90,000–$125,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
