RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all brewing operations, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, centrifugation, fermentation, cooling, and transfer to packaging tanks.
- Conduct thorough pre‑inspections and safely operate all brewing equipment
- Actively contribute input toward equipment optimisation and process improvements in support of brewery operations
- Prepare, organise, and accurately track all materials used during brewing. Monitor processes in real time and make adjustments as required
- Collect and document samples throughout the brewing operations.
- Execute comprehensive sanitation and cleaning to ensure equipment reliability and product integrity.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with teams such as Quality, Packaging, Innovation, and Supply Chain
- Support the Head Brewer in daily operations
Quality & Freshness
Quality and freshness are central to every stage of production. The Brewer plays an active role in protecting product integrity from raw materials through to the consumer.
- Work closely with the Quality Control and Brewing teams to monitor production quality, operational performance, and sanitation standards.
- Perform standardised quality measurements and testing (including gravity, pH, and temperature)
- Conduct sensory evaluations to proactively identify and address potential quality concerns.
- Act as a knowledgeable and professional ambassador for Muskoka Brewery whenever interacting with colleagues, partners, or customers.
Health & Safety
Safety is a shared responsibility, and this role is expected to actively support a safe and compliant work environment.
- Promote accident prevention by identifying hazards, following safe work practices
- Participate in continuous improvement of health and safety practices by providing feedback
- Perform regular equipment inspections, housekeeping, and sanitation activities to maintain a clean, organized, and safe brewery environment.
- Adhere to all safety, food safety, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Proven hands‑on brewing experience in a production brewery environment, with the ability to operate independently across brewhouse, cellar, and centrifuge operations.
- Strong practical understanding of brewing processes, fermentation management, sanitation, and quality control.
- Formal brewing education (college, university, IBD, Siebel, UC Davis, or equivalent) is considered an asset but not required; practical experience and demonstrated capability are equally valued.
- Experience using an ERP system is an asset but not required
- Working knowledge of quality measurements and sensory evaluation, including gravity, pH, Diacetyl, DMS, and general flavour stability indicators.
- Experience following GMPs, sanitation programs, food safety, and CFIA‑aligned procedures in a regulated production environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation, record keeping, and production tracking.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly across shifts and departments, and support a positive brewery culture.
- Willingness to mentor less experienced brewers by setting a strong example through safe work practices, quality standards, and professionalism.
- Physically capable of performing brewery tasks, including working on your feet for extended periods, lifting raw materials, and working in a wet, industrial environment.
- Flexible and reliable, with the ability to support varying production schedules, early starts, or shift work as required.
