Salary - $90,000 – $110,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
We are an established and growing public accounting firm seeking a full time experienced Senior Bookkeeper / Bookkeeping Manager/ Personal Tax Preparer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys bookkeeping and tax preparation, staff leadership and client service.
This is a senior-level position requiring significant hands-on experience. Only applicants with extensive public practice bookkeeping, managerial and personal tax experience will be considered.
The successful candidate will perform senior-level bookkeeping duties, manage and mentor staff, review client files, manage workflow, prepare complex Canadian personal income tax returns and assist clients with CRA compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Senior Bookkeeper – Full Cycle Bookkeeping
- Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for a diverse client base.
- Review, maintain and ensure the accuracy of client accounting records.
- Complete bank, credit card, loan, and investment account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end bookkeeping files.
- Prepare and file GST (Quick & Regular Method) and PST returns.
- Record capital assets
- Identify and resolve bookkeeping discrepancies.
- Maintain organized and complete client files monthly, quarterly & annually.
- Manage CRA correspondence, reviews, follow-ups, assessments and compliance matters.
Bookkeeping Supervisor – Department Leadership
- Supervise, train, and mentor bookkeeping staff.
- Review junior staff bookkeeping files for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
- Manage bookkeeping workflow and ensure client deadlines are met.
- Provide guidance and technical support to bookkeeping team members.
- Develop and improve bookkeeping procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
- Ensure consistent quality standards across bookkeeping files.
Personal Income Tax
- Prepare a high volume of personal income tax returns (T1s).
- Research and resolve complex tax issues.
- Prepare returns involving complex tax matters
- Prepare CRA review responses with supporting documentation for personal tax clients.
- Manage follow-up communication and correspondence with CRA regarding reviews, assessments, and tax compliance matters.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of recent experience in a public accounting firm.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Canadian English
- Extensive experience with full-cycle bookkeeping.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring and reviewing work of junior bookkeepers.
- Extensive experience preparing Canadian T1 personal income tax returns including:
- T776 Rental Statements
- T2125 Business Statements
- Investment income
- Capital gains calculations
- Foreign reporting requirements
- Employment Expenses
- GST/HST
- CRA review procedures
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian tax legislation.
- Proficiency with QBO Online & Desktop, Microsoft Excel and tax preparation software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt, prioritize, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional accuracy.
- Experience communicating directly with CRA
- Comfortable working in both digital and paper-based environments
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Assets (Not Required):
- Experience preparing T3 Trust income tax returns
- Experience preparing U.S. personal income tax returns
- Experience with Office Tools, AccountEdge
- Experience with E-commerce businesses e.g. Shopify, PayPal, WooCommerce, etc.
