The mine is located a short drive from Wawa, deep in the forest where it is scenic and quiet. It is a real ‘boots on the ground’ setting. Team members reside in a camp environment and typically work on rotations, depending on the position. About the Opportunity
The Mining Manager is responsible for overseeing all underground mining development and production activities to ensure the safe, stable, and efficient delivery of ore to the mill aligned with weekly and monthly plans derived from budget. The role drives operational discipline, execution of mine plans, grade control, effective personnel and equipment utilization, and cost performance while ensuring compliance with Ontario mining regulations, company standards, and environmental requirements.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to production teams, foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and ensure production targets are achieved safely and sustainably.

With extensive underground mining experience and strong technical knowledge of mining methods, production processes, ventilation, ground control, and mine planning execution, you are confident making operational decisions that support both short-term objectives and long-term business goals. Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Job Duties
Production Planning & Execution

Lead the execution of short, medium, and long-term underground mine production plans aligned with operational and business objectives.

Ensure planned ore tonnage and grade are delivered to the processing plant in accordance with mill requirements.

Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production performance against established targets and KPIs.

Adjust production schedules to address operational constraints, geotechnical conditions, ventilation limitations, and personnel / equipment availability.

Coordinate underground loading, hauling, development, and ore control activities.

Ensure effective ore blending and alignment between underground production and mill feed requirements.
Safety, Health & Environment
-
Champion a strong safety culture focused on achieving zero harm across all underground mining activities.

Ensure compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, mining regulations, company policies, and site procedures.

Lead incident investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives.

Promote adherence to safe work practices, SOPs, and operational standards underground.

Support environmental compliance initiatives including water management, ventilation controls, waste management, and dust suppression.
Leadership & Team Management

Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, superintendents, and underground production teams.

Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across all shifts.

Ensure effective communication and shift handovers between operations teams.

Foster a culture of ownership, teamwork, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.

Drive short interval control practices to proactively manage production performance and operational deviations.
Equipment & Resource Management

Optimize utilization and availability of underground mobile mining equipment.

Collaborate closely with maintenance and engineering teams to maximize fleet reliability and productivity.

Ensure effective workforce planning and personnel deployment to meet operational requirements.

Identify operational bottlenecks and implement productivity improvement initiatives.
Cost Management & Budget Control
-
Manage underground mining production costs in alignment with budget targets and cost-per-tonne objectives.

Monitor and control consumption of key operating inputs including fuel, explosives, ground support, and other consumables.

Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking activities.
-
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or production performance.
Grade Control & Operational Quality

Ensure mining activities comply with mine design, stope sequencing, and grade control requirements.

Work collaboratively with geology, engineering, and survey teams to minimize dilution and ore loss.

Ensure proper ore/waste segregation and underground stockpile management.

Support strategies that maintain consistent mill feed quality and optimize recovery.
Reporting & Compliance

Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.

Monitor and report key performance indicators related to safety, production, costs, equipment utilization, and quality.

Ensure compliance with mine plans, permits, and statutory reporting obligations.

Participate in audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions as required.
Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and mine-to-mill performance.

Promote operational discipline and adherence to standards across all underground activities.

Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or significant years of operational experience.

Minimum 10-15 years of underground mining experience, preferably within underground gold mining operations.

Minimum 5 years in a leadership or management role within underground mining
-
Strong understanding of underground mining methods, mine planning execution, ventilation, ground control, and production processes.

Supervisory or leadership development training preferred.

Shift / Hours of Work: 10-hours
Schedule / Rotation: 4 days on, 3 days off
