Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Flatbed Long Haul Truck Driver to transport flatbed freight, including oversized and over-dimensional loads, throughout Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will safely operate Class 1 commercial vehicles while complying with Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations, border-crossing requirements, and company safety standards. The ideal candidate is experienced in cross-border operations, cargo securement, route planning, and delivering freight safely and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Class 1 tractor-trailers with flatbed trailers to transport freight throughout Canada and the United States.
- Haul a variety of freight including steel, lumber, construction materials, industrial equipment, machinery, and oversized or over-dimensional loads.
- Transport oversized loads in accordance with Canadian and U.S. federal, state, and provincial regulations, permit requirements, and company policies.
- Plan and follow approved cross-border and oversized-load routes while considering bridge clearances, road restrictions, weight limits, weather conditions, and escort vehicle requirements.
- Cross the Canada–U.S. border while ensuring compliance with customs documentation, border security regulations, and shipping requirements.
- Secure cargo using chains, ratchet binders, straps, edge protectors, tarps, and other cargo securement devices in compliance with North American cargo securement standards.
- Install, remove, and maintain tarps to protect cargo from weather and road conditions.
- Perform regular en-route inspections and re-tighten chains, binders, straps, and tarps to ensure cargo remains secure throughout the trip.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck, trailer, tires, brakes, lights, cargo securement equipment, and safety devices.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper records, including driver logs, bills of lading, permits, fuel receipts, mileage records, customs documentation, inspection reports, and delivery paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, shippers, receivers, customs officials, and pilot car operators regarding pickups, deliveries, border crossings, route conditions, and delays.
- Comply with Canadian and U.S. Hours of Service regulations, DOT/FMCSA requirements, provincial transportation laws, cargo securement standards, and workplace health and safety policies.
- Perform basic vehicle troubleshooting and report mechanical defects or maintenance issues promptly.
- Keep the truck, trailer, and cargo securement equipment clean, organized, and in safe operating condition.
- Practice defensive driving techniques and maintain a professional, safety-focused approach while representing the company during cross-border operations.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License (or equivalent) with eligibility to operate in Canada and the United States.
- Valid passport and legal eligibility to perform cross-border commercial transportation.
- Proven experience operating flatbed tractor-trailers on long-haul Canada–U.S. routes.
- Experience transporting oversized and over-dimensional loads and working with oversize permits and escort vehicle requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations, FMCSA/DOT requirements, cargo securement standards, and cross-border procedures.
- Proficiency in using chains, binders, ratchet straps, tarps, and other flatbed cargo securement equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including securing, tarping, and inspecting loads.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

Pay: $80,000.00-$153,610.27 per year
