Senior General Accountant (With Team Leadership)
Location: North York, ON (100% On-Site)
Compensation: Base + Performance-Based Variable Bonus
About Us
We are an entrepreneurial, fast-growing, multi-channel food operations and route-logistics company headquartered in North York. Operating at the intersection of retail automation, warehouse fulfillment, and fresh food production, our environment is fast-paced, lean, and highly execution-driven. We are not a slow, corporate office. We are builders who love the study of business, and we are looking for a sharp, practical accounting professional to join our core team and own our daily ledger execution.
The Role
This is a highly tactical, hands-on role for a bright accounting professional who enjoys full-cycle transactional execution, loves operational logic, and wants to step into a leadership capacity. Reporting directly to Senior Leadership (or their designate), you will take absolute ownership of our day-to-day transaction processing, ledger hygiene, and the direct supervision of our team.
You are not an administrative manager who sits back; you are a fast, technically precise execution machine who ensures that hundreds of thousands of digital and operational data points settle flawlessly into QuickBooks Online, while actively mentoring and developing our junior AR/AP clerk into a high-performer.
Key Responsibilities
* **Team Supervision & Development:** Directly oversee, train, and review the daily outputs of our AR/AP clerk (ensuring entry work, document matching, and basic reconciliations are 100% accurate and on schedule).
* **High-Volume Transaction Processing:** Execute daily bank transaction postings and cross-verify multi-point-of-sale (POS) digital and card deposits against our operational bank feeds.
* **Weekly Revenue Reconciliations:** Perform weekly revenue postings and system audits, matching transaction telemetry from our automated field networks to our core accounting stacks.
* **Escalated AR & AP Management:** Drive overall collections velocity and vendor payment strategies. Step in to handle complex customer accounts, resolve critical vendor discrepancies, and oversee accurate localized customer onboarding.
* **Inventory & Margin Auditing:** Partner with warehouse and operations teams to verify monthly physical inventory counts against our digital ledger, identifying margin leaks and correcting variance errors.
* **Month-End, HST & WSIB Compliance:** Book accurate month-end journal entries, run general ledger reconciliations, prepare provincial tax returns (HST tracking), compile WSIB filings, and systematically prepare clean working papers for year-end review.
* **Payment Administration:** Queue and manage vendor payables electronically via our automated spend management platforms, ensuring tight internal controls before final executive authorization.
* **Audit Support:** Assist with auditing processes to support organizational financial health
Prerequisite Experience & Technical Capability
* **The Ledger Base:** 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience using QuickBooks Online (QBO) inside a product-margin, route-logistics, retail, or wholesale distribution environment.
* **Leadership Aptitude:** Proven experience or a strong, natural capability to train, mentor, and review the work of junior accounting clerks or administrative staff.
* **Technical & AI Literacy:** Proficient in leveraging modern software to eliminate manual workflows. Working knowledge of AI platforms (specifically Claude) and advanced Excel/spreadsheet mechanics to optimize data matching is helpful.
* **Industry-Specific Tech:** While pre-existing familiarity with automated retail software (like Cantaloupe Seed) or warehouse systems is rare, you must possess the technical aptitude to learn proprietary, industry-specific interfaces rapidly.
* **The Operator Mindset:** Ideally raised in or around a fast-moving family business or small-to-medium enterprise (SME) environment. You are naturally inclined toward commercial logic, possess strong business sense, and value execution speed over corporate meetings.
Who Will Thrive Here
* Bright, self-directed professionals who operate autonomously and prefer an environment with zero hand-holding.
* Accurate, high-velocity doers who take pride in an immaculate, zero-latency ledger.
* Natural coaches who enjoy building capability in others while holding their team to a high standard of execution.
* We want a "fix-it-first-time" and "root-cause" execution focus.
* Practical thinkers who care about business outcomes and understand that ledger cleanliness is the foundation of scale.
