Commercial Construction Supervisor
Hedman Construction Ltd. is hiring an experienced Commercial Construction Supervisor to join our team.
We are a COR Certified company with steady local work and a growing portfolio of commercial construction projects.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5–10 years of experience in the construction industry and a proven ability to successfully supervise commercial construction projects from start to finish.
This position is primarily focused on supervision, coordination, scheduling, communication, and project execution. The ability to effectively lead people, coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors, maintain schedules, monitor project costs, and resolve issues across multiple sites is critical to the role.
We are looking for an individual who is organized, accountable, confident in making decisions, and capable of taking ownership of projects.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have strong experience supervising commercial construction projects.
- Be confident managing multiple projects and job sites.
- Have excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Be capable of developing, maintaining, and adjusting project schedules.
- Understand construction budgets and be able to monitor labour, materials, subcontractors, and other project costs.
- Identify potential problems early and take appropriate action to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Effectively coordinate employees, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, Project Managers, employees, and subcontractors.
- Be comfortable making decisions and resolving problems independently.
- Have strong computer skills and be comfortable with construction management software and documentation.
- Understand and enforce company safety and quality standards.
- Be able to provide leadership and direction to other members of the construction team.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supervise multiple commercial construction projects.
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day construction activities.
- Develop and maintain project schedules.
- Coordinate employees, subcontractors, suppliers, inspections, and deliveries.
- Monitor project progress and communicate status to management.
- Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Monitor labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Identify potential cost overruns and schedule delays and take corrective action.
- Work with Project Managers to manage changes in project scope and maintain project budgets.
- Ensure projects are properly staffed and resources are available when required.
- Review subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed according to project requirements.
- Resolve construction issues and coordinate solutions with the appropriate parties.
- Maintain communication with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure required inspections and permits are coordinated.
- Ensure company safety policies and applicable safety regulations are followed.
- Monitor quality of work and ensure deficiencies are addressed promptly.
- Review and maintain required project documentation and reports.
- Assist with project closeout and deficiency completion.
- Provide leadership and direction to Foremen and other site personnel.
- Assist management with planning, resource allocation, and project coordination as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 5–10 years of experience in commercial construction.
- Proven experience successfully supervising commercial construction projects.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, priorities, and multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing, and project coordination.
- Ability to monitor project costs and understand the financial impact of project decisions.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
An asset:
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand.
- Carpentry or other trade experience.
- Experience with construction estimating, budgeting, or project management.
- Experience with construction management software.

Compensation
$75,000 - $90,000+
