By fostering meaningful engagement and innovative support systems, SEED aims to create pathways that help youth overcome barriers and thrive in today’s workforce and beyond.
Skills2SucSEED (S2S) focuses on developing skills pertaining to Employability, Digital Literacy, and overall wellness. The program is online, workshop-based, and designed to deliver education in engaging and innovative ways. Youth interventions are done virtually through weekly workshops and one-on-one sessions. S2S works with youth between the age of 15-21 and are in receipt of Income assistance, dependents of income assistance recipients, youth in care or have another connection to the OSD.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Program Officer is responsible for administration of the program, delivering workshops and case management of youth, working in consultation with the standing Program Officer and the Senior manager.

Duties:
● Recruit youth from referring agencies including OSD offices, residential facilities, schools, and youth serving groups.
● Complete intakes and assessments for all youth in the program.
● In collaboration with the standing S2S program officer, develop and implement workshops and case planning strategies.
● Co-Case management of approximately 75 clients on an annual basis, including the development of personalized intervention strategies.
● Develop and facilitate a range of activities and workshops in both group and one-on-one virtual settings, increasing client employability and life skills while focusing on empowerment and building self-confidence.
● Develop partnerships and collaborate with communities across the province to support the development of services for the S2S target population.
● Work effectively with clients to identify and help decrease inherent barriers to success such as poverty, education, life skills, etc.
● Refer youth to other social service or community providers where necessary (i.e., training, legal, medical, financial assistance, housing, etc.)
● Maintain contact with other social service agencies involved with the youth to provide information and obtain feedback on overall progress (within the boundaries of privacy protocols).
● Develop connections with employers to assist with obtaining employment and securing work placements
● Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research and provide details to program manager for LAMPSS reporting.
● Maintain timely and accurate records to satisfy Department of Opportunities & Social Development (OSD) requirements and internal reporting processes.
● Complete administrative duties that maintain the programs productivity and accountability
● Represent SEED within the network of youth focused service providers
● Participate regularly in staff meetings, case conferences and staff training
● Maintain positive working relationships with all S2S stakeholders.
Qualifications:
● Post Secondary education in social work, child and youth care, psychology or other social science or health-related discipline
● Minimum of four (4) years of experience (or a combination of education and experience) facilitating group sessions and providing one-on-one support to marginalized and at-risk youth.
● Must have experience developing and facilitating workshops
● Experience in working with youth attached to OSD including the ability recognize existing barriers to employment frequently present with OSD clients
● Education, training and/or experience in delivering training and support on the following subjects: employability, career development, education/literacy, wellness, digital literacy, and life skills
● Experience and training in conflict resolution
● Ability to adapt intervention strategies to meet individual client needs
● Confidence and ability to connect with clients in virtual spaces. Ability to adapt interventions and workshops to online only.
● Demonstrated understanding of learning styles and their impact on a participants’ ability to engage and participate fully.
● Strong attention to detail, communication and time management skills are necessary for this position
● Experience with Google suite, Microsoft office and other online platforms.
Additional Information:
The candidate must reside in Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia, as in person meetings are sometimes required. A typical workweek is Monday to Friday, with a mixture of daytime and evening hours. In the months that workshops are in session they are completed during evening hours twice a week. Most connections with youth, employers, and partners will be done virtually however there will be some in person contact as needed.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) offering a competitive benefits package and RRSP matching. SEED requires a Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check included), and clear Child Abuse Register Check (updated annually). This position is dependent upon program funding availability.
