Shield Industrial, a division of the Shield Group of Companies, is a leading Newfoundland & Labrador manufacturer of custom removable insulation systems and industrial textile products. We support clients across construction, energy, marine, offshore, industrial fabrication, and HVAC/mechanical sectors. With a growing project list and increased demand for our locally manufactured products, we are seeking a motivated and reliable Field/Shop Technician to join our team.
About the Role
This hybrid position works both in our Mount Pearl production shop and on client sites across the Avalon and province. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, learning new skills, and contributing to a tight-knit team that values quality, safety, and pride in craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Responsibilities (Mount Pearl Facility):
- Assist with fabrication of removable insulation blankets and custom textile products
- Cut, fit, measure, and prep materials
- Support sewing team with assembly, patterning, binding, and quality checks
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace
- Load/unload materials and support production workflow
Field Responsibilities (Client Sites):
- Install removable insulation blankets
- Take accurate measurements onsite for new blanket fabrication
- Communicate with clients and project leads to confirm install requirements
- Follow all site safety procedures, orientations, and PPE requirements
- Represent Shield Industrial professionally on every job site
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in trades, construction, industrial work, fabrication, or mechanical work (an asset but not required—we will train the right candidate)
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment
- Ability to work safely in shop and field environments
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs
- Valid driver’s license required
- Class 8 license considered an asset
- Ability to travel to client sites (mostly Avalon region; occasional out-of-town work)
- Reliability, good communication skills, and a positive attitude are must-haves
