Position Purpose and Objectives
The Buyer of Thomson-Gordon, reporting to the Purchasing Manager, will be responsible for the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive supplier on-time delivery performance to 95% or better
- Source finished goods, raw materials and services at best possible price and delivery from international and domestic vendors
- Administer contracts for services, such as, Landscaping, Snow-removal, Janitorial services and uniform cleaning
- Purchase from both requisitions and re-order reports
- Prepare, submit and expedite purchase orders and arrange prompt delivery of goods and services
- Track shipments and expedite deliveries
- Liaise with Sales, Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Production Planning
- Attend Project Meetings with Sales, QC and Production and report on progress of incoming parts
- Track Purchasing activities
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports issued to vendors
- Process product returns to vendors, including shipping and customs documents
- File and distribute all purchase orders
- Participate in the design and execution of visual purchasing aids (i.e. Kanban)
- Seek new sources of supply where required
- Support the development & execution of the supplier evaluation process and action plans
- Ensure SDS sheets for suppliers are received and up to date
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to speak effectively to vendors & employees
- Ability to solve practical problems and work under tight timelines
- Ability to work independently
- Computer literate – Microsoft Word, Excel, Database application
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Strong bias for action
- Takes initiative
- Purchasing basics and lean manufacturing experience an asset
- CSCP preferred
Minimum Qualifications
Post-Secondary Materials Planning Diploma an asset
3-5 years of buying experience
