ABOUT THE ROLE
As Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will take full ownership of designing and developing electrical control panels for our industrial machinery at our Richmond facility. You will be responsible for ensuring that electrical design packages meet all technical, schedule, and quality requirements.
You’ll report directly to the Head of Automation & Controls and work closely with mechanical, software, and project teams to ensure seamless system integration. This is an on-site role requiring strong engineering discipline, proactive problem-solving, and a willingness to provide both remote and on-site field support globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Design electrical schematics for industrial control panels using EPLAN, including power distribution, single-line diagrams, and PLC I/O drawings
· Develop terminal diagrams, bills of materials (BOM), cable block diagrams, and conduit/cable tray layouts
· Select and specify optimal electrical components in accordance with project requirements
· Review tender documents, technical specifications, and customer requirements to ensure compliance, feasibility, and scope clarity
· Perform cost estimation and project costing based on electrical designs and BOMs
· Carry out Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for control panels and electrical systems
· Coordinate with mechanical, software, and project teams to ensure flawless system integration
· Take full ownership of assigned projects from concept to final design delivery
· Provide remote and on-site technical support to installation and service teams across different time zones
· Travel internationally (approx. 20%) to support and investigate field issues on-site during installation and commissioning
· Drive a culture of quality, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the engineering team
· Support broader operational initiatives and cross-functional collaboration
QUALIFICATIONS
· 5+ years of experience in electrical design for industrial automation and control systems
· Proven experience in control panel design, technical evaluation, and hands-on troubleshooting
· Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
· Proficiency in electrical design software, with a strong preference for EPLAN (AutoCAD is a plus)
· Experience with PLCs, VFDs, network switches, instrumentation, sensors, and actuators
· Good understanding of international electrical standards, including NFPA/NEC, IEC/EN, UL, and CSA
· Experience in tender review, technical evaluation, and cost estimation is preferred
· Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
· Must hold a valid passport and be able to travel internationally, including to the United States, without restrictions
