Petrospec Engineering is seeking a motivated Surface Technician to join our Field Operations team. This hands-on position supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing of surface systems and fiber optic monitoring equipment throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Most work is performed at operator sites in heavy oil fields throughout northeast Alberta and Saskatchewan. This is predominantly outdoor work performed alongside drilling rigs, service rigs, and other oilfield service providers. Accommodations for out-of-town assignments are provided through operator dry camps or hotels.
Working independently or as part of a 2–4 person field crew, the Surface Technician is responsible for supporting Supervisors and Electricians in the safe, efficient, and successful completion of field operations. This includes assisting with the installation, testing, and termination of downhole instrumentation and surface equipment, while maintaining effective communication and coordination with crew members, operators, and third-party service providers. The Surface Technician is expected to perform all work in accordance with Petrospec's high standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
Field Operations
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain surface systems and fiber optic monitoring equipment.
- Assist with equipment setup, cable routing, surface panel installation, communications hardware, field surveys, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure instrumentation is properly installed, tested, packed off at the wellhead, and terminated into surface control panels.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot field equipment and communication systems.
- Prepare field documentation, service reports, and checklists accurately and on time.
- Maintain field tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials in a clean and organized condition.
- Participate in equipment mobilization and demobilization activities.
- Operate company vehicles and field equipment safely and responsibly.
Safety & Quality
- Follow all company and client health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Participate in pre-job planning, hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and site safety discussions.
- Complete required vehicle, equipment, quality, and safety inspections.
- Ensure all work is completed to Petrospec's quality standards and client expectations.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and lead by example.

Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical training in instrumentation, or a related field service experience is considered an asset.
Experience
- 1-3 years of field service, oilfield, communications, instrumentation, or surface equipment experience preferred.
- Experience working at remote oilfield locations is considered an asset.
- Experience with fiber optic systems field work or surface equipment is an asset.
- Experience working directly with clients in the field is an asset.
Skills & Requirements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot field equipment and solve problems independently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing demanding outdoor work.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, including overnight stays in camps or hotels.
As this is a safety-sensitive position, successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and pre-access screening. Ongoing testing may include post-incident, reasonable cause, and random testing in accordance with company policy.

Compensation:
$78,000+ per year, based on experience and qualifications, plus competitive benefits.
