The Job:
Hours: This will range throughout the week from 7:00am start and 6:00 end time (subject to change). Occasional hours on Saturday and Sunday dependent on weather and other conditions.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you'll need:
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in paving stone and/or retaining wall installations, demonstrating expertise in the field and showing correct installation techniques.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to repeatedly lift 50+ lbs comfortably and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
Education, Licenses and Equipment:
- High School Diploma
- Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract is required.
- Reliable transportation to and from work is essential.
- Mandatory experience operating skid-steers, trailers and excavators.
Leadership Skills:
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team of 5 people or more, effectively delegating tasks, providing directions, and supervising the team to ensure timely and high-quality work.
Design Interpretation:
- Proficiency in interpreting and reading designs, with the ability to monitor progress effectively to ensure seamless execution.
Your Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Foreman at Blue Isle Contracting Ltd., you'll play a crucial role in leading and managing on-site teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Your duties may include:
Leadership and Crew Accountability
1. Uphold Blue Isle Contracting’s Values and instill these values in your crew.
2. Use Landscape Management Software (LMN) to complete your administrative tasks.
3. Lead, motivate, and maintain a high level of accountability for on-site teams, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
4. Keep projects on schedule, coordinating with the administrative team to address deviations.
5. Effectively communicate and document change orders and project adjustments for client billing and project management.
6. Show initiative to improve work practices, safety, and productivity.
7. Manage the team, handling personnel issues, training, and providing feedback to the supervisor.
8. Organize jobs, ensuring the team has necessary resources and materials to complete them efficiently.
9. Maintain consistent and timely communication with clients, team members, and managers.
10. Recommend modifications based on field conditions, client requests, and supply issues.
11. Brief the owner on job status, personnel issues, and client concerns.
12. Interact with clients, address questions and requests, and provide walk-throughs at project completion.
13. Promote safety, performance, and crew well-being, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Construction and Landscaping
14. Direct, supervise, and work alongside crew members to complete residential and commercial hardscape and softscape projects, including natural stone installations, interlocking paving stone driveways, patios, walkways, retaining walls, water features, fire features, lot grading, drainage systems, and planting projects.
15. Read, understand, and communicate landscape design and specification documents.
16. Understand elevations and elevation measuring tools or devices used on sites, using this knowledge to execute the construction plan.
17. Ensure adherence to plans and maintain the quality of work.
18. Perform general hardscape installation and maintenance procedures.
19. Perform general landscape maintenance, including planting and transplanting.
20. Operate proficiently a variety of mechanical equipment, including skid steers, excavators, power tools, plate compactors, jumping jacks, stone grinders, drills, gas and electric chop saws, demolition hammers, jack hammers, and other specialized equipment necessary to complete job tasks.
21. Operate automatic and stick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
22. Ensure to stay with your vehicle if parked on the side of the road while awaiting assistance from a tow truck or other services.
23. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including provided Blue Isle attire.
24. Maintain a positive attitude.
Client Interaction
25. Introduce yourself warmly, displaying a positive attitude, and actively listen to the client's concerns while demonstrating awareness of the neighborhoods and surrounding community.
26. Provide the client with a comprehensive overview of the project timeline and expectations, ensuring clarity.
27. Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the day to update them on project progress and address any questions or concerns promptly.
28. Conduct door-to-door visits to inform neighboring residents about the ongoing work. Provide them with details about the project timeline and instructions on how to contact Blue Isle with any concerns.
29. Prioritize cleanliness and safety on the site, ensuring it is tidy and easily navigable when engaging with the client.
30. Collaborate with clients to accommodate requested changes, effectively communicating how these alterations will impact the project to both the client and administrative staff as needed.
31. Discuss any change orders with clients as required, promptly communicating these adjustments to administrative staff for proper documentation and pricing.
32. Advise clients to allow the project team to focus on their work without interruption, emphasizing the importance of not engaging with crew members on-site.
33. Ensure the client is aware of the safety concerns of walking around an active work site and engaging in conversations with working employees.
34. Handle any interactions with bylaw officers professionally and efficiently, ensuring compliance with local regulations and addressing any issues or concerns promptly to maintain a smooth project progression.
35. Provide clients with valuable care tips and maintenance advice during the final walk-through, empowering them to maintain the project's integrity long-term.
36. Conduct a thorough final walk-through with clients to ensure their satisfaction and address any remaining concerns or questions.
