DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Outdoor Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading a dynamic youth leadership program that combines outdoor recreation, community involvement, volunteerism, and personal development. The coordinator will facilitate weekly activities, provide mentorship and supervision to participants, coordinate volunteer opportunities and special events, and deliver engaging training and educational experiences. They will foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where youth can build confidence, leadership skills, teamwork, and a connection to the natural world. The coordinator will also work with community partners and staff to create meaningful opportunities that encourage youth to become active, engaged, and environmentally responsible community members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

Minimum completion of one year of undergraduate university degree or college diploma in a relevant field of study such as Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Studies, Childhood Education, Child and Youth Studies.

Must have a first aid certification.
-
Must have experience leading either children or youth in an outdoor and/or environmental education or recreational setting.

Must have experience in designing outdoor environmental program curriculum.

Must have current Paddle Canada Tandem Lake Canoe Skills Certification.
Considered an Asset:
-
Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
-
Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Service certification

Previous experience working recreation programs and/or overnight programs at the Adventure Earth

Supervisory experience
-
Mental Health First Aid training
-
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
-
Experience with Halifax’s Youth Leadership Program an asset

Understanding of Healthy Childhood Development

Paddle Canada Flatwater 2 Stand Up Paddle Board Skills Certification

Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level 1 Certification

Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual, part-time.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 15 hours a week.
SALARY: Non-Union; $21.75 (plus 4% vacation pay), paid out biweekly. Eligible for paid holidays (if you work 15 of the 30 calendar days before the holiday and your next scheduled shift after the holiday, per NS Labour Standards).

Adventure Earth Harbour East – Shubie Park (54 Locks Road, Dartmouth).
Adventure Earth Harbour West – Fleming Park (68 Parkhill Road, Halifax).
