Nefab Canada (Peterborough, Ontario) was established in 1984; it offers our largest manufacturing and most automated facility in the Americas Region (Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil).
Position Description
The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for driving lean transformation and continuous improvement projects within the Peterborough production site. The role focuses on supporting and enabling site leadership and teams through lean leadership development, lean training, change management, and the facilitation of improvement initiatives like VSMs and Kaizen events.
Duties
Operational Excellence
- Facilitate the use of lean methodology (5S, Kaizen, TPM, SMED, etc.) for all levels of site personnel
- Change Management: Guide teams through change management processes necessary to support cultural and operational lean transformation
- Facilitate kaizen events, value stream mapping, and Gemba walks, identifying and acting on improvement opportunities to boost efficiency, quality, and customer value
- Value Stream Mapping (VSM): Lead VSM workshops to identify waste, prioritize improvement opportunities, and develop actionable implementation plans
- Continuous Improvement: Facilitate and support cross-functional teams in identifying, prioritizing, and executing improvement projects
- Perform lean assessments
- Comply with local regulations
- Adhere to ISO 9001 and 14001 Policies and Procedures
Process Excellence
- Document and optimize procedures to support scalability and operational excellence
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with site leadership, production teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to foster engagement and alignment
- Standardization & Best Practices: Share lean tools, processes, and best practices across regional sites; ensure standardization and sustainability of improvements
- Performance Monitoring: Track, monitor, and report on lean initiatives and results to ensure visibility and accountability
- Investigate and implement digital tools within operations
- Collaborate with Group Operations (Nefab AB in Sweden), Vice President of Operations for the Americas, and Consultants (both internal & external) on behalf of the local site
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, industrial management, or related field.
- 2+ years’ experience implementing lean (preferably in manufacturing environments)
- Knowledge of lean tools and methodologies
- Proven change management abilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Positive, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude
- PMP certification would be considered an asset
- Experience working within a manufacturing ERP system is considered an asset
