The Bucket Shop is a Timmins, Ontario based mining equipment repair and manufacturing facility, with several departments including an Estimating department responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for our welding and metal fabrication projects.
We are seeking a Junior Estimator to join our Estimating team. This is an entry-level position best suited to someone with prior experience in metal fabrication, welding, or a related trade, who is looking to build a career in cost estimating. The successful candidate will work closely with our Lead Estimator, assisting with material takeoffs, data gathering, and the preparation of estimate components while developing the skills needed to grow into a full Estimator role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing engineering drawings, fabrication blueprints, and project specifications
- Prepare preliminary material takeoffs for review by the Lead Estimator
- Support preparation of cost estimate components, including labour hours, material pricing, and vendor quotations
- Help prepare and format bid documents, quotes, and proposals within required timelines
- Maintain and update estimating templates, rate databases, and historical job cost records
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to gather information needed for estimates
- Accompany the Lead Estimator on occasional site visits to support field estimates
Qualifications:
- Some experience in a metal fabrication, structural steel, or welding environment (Required)
- Familiarity with welding processes such as MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, or Stick is an asset
- Prior exposure to estimating, quoting, or cost analysis in an industrial or trades setting
- Basic understanding of metal types, grades, and form factors (plate, structural sections, pipe, tube, sheet)
- Ability to read basic fabrication drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure
- Exposure to estimating software or ERP systems (Genius, Epicor, Cetec, or similar) is an asset
- Trade certification or Red Seal apprenticeship experience is a strong asset
