What is the Opportunity?
Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects across Canada. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Finance Manager will be responsible for financial administration including reporting, budgeting, forecasting and day-to-day transactions to ensure that the financial objectives are met, and accounting procedures are carried out.
What You'll Do Here:
- Oversight of finance activities within a business unit or functional area, this could include financial reporting, budgeting, taxation
- Coordinate the close off process and prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and related schedules & notes
- Consolidation of joint arrangements for financial statement preparation
- Work effectively with, influence and support project teams, joint arrangements & JV Partners
- Implement & manage internal control procedures
- Coordinate & manage internal and external audits
- Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts in concert with the respective business partners
- Investigate / analyze departmental variances from budgets/forecast on a monthly/quarterly basis – working closely with business partners
- Involved in supporting accounting research to provide recommendations, ensuring the Company complies with all areas of IFRS and in accordance with established Aecon policies and procedures
- Enhance the applicable finance processes and support process improvement initiatives to achieve financial goals and improve efficiency and profitability
- Build a strong network across various teams to handle a wide range of analytical and operational issues
- Support preparation of financial presentations & analyses for the leadership team
- Support preparation of ad-hoc financial analyses (including “what-if” scenario analysis) as required to support business partners
What You Bring to the Team:
- 10+ years of professional finance experience, preferably in the construction or infrastructure industry
- Degree in Accounting or Business Management required
- Accounting designation – CPA or CA required
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and percentage of completion accounting
- Demonstrated ability to perform in a leadership capacity
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks under pressure
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Strong knowledge of financial management is required
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment within a small team
