Reporting to the care manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse will carry out professional duties as assigned, including court-ordered assessments of individuals facing charges under the Criminal Code of Canada. Nursing duties include effective communication among team and stakeholders, patient admission and discharge processes, completion of nursing histories in a timely manner, one-to-one interviews, history documentation, medication administration, attending weekly conferences, facilitation of patient groups, observing patients in all settings, documentation of patient's presentations/behaviors and maintaining a safe and secure environment at all times. The Licensed Practical Nurse will also carry out professional duties (as required) with the sites Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) program and the interdisciplinary team.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Recovery Alberta policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 year of recent experience in a general mental health or related setting. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organizational skills and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health decompensation. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medication.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum 1 year of recent experience in a forensic mental health setting. Basic knowledge of the Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) legislation (Criminal Code Review Board). Current nonviolent Crisis intervention (NVCI), Connect Care training, and N95 fit testing.
