Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Director of Purchasing, the Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring that packaging materials and supply inventory levels are maintained within established parameters. This role oversees the planning, ordering, and timely delivery of materials to support production schedules and maintain efficient inventory management.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Review daily Production schedule and maintain adequate levels of stock to meet daily production
- Forecast inventory needs to ensure sufficient packaging materials are available to support the two-week production plan.
- Perform critical inventory tasks to ensure the correct number of products are in stock.
- Troubleshoot quantity discrepancies between inventory count and Fishbowl records
- Maintain inventory levels of materials in the planned areas, to ensure efficient storage and handling
- Be aware of the warehouse’s space, and establish a healthy flow of materials.
- Provide daily update to Management on any delivery status of any urgent items that will not be received on time for production.
- Prepare weekly expiration report for QA for disposition
- Provide incoming materials report to Receiving so they can prepare for receipt
- Create and communicate the purchase orders within vendor required lead time
- Work with vendors getting the confirmation that all items ordered will be received on time, plan for and adjust if there are any issues
- Work with the vendors on any PO that needs to be returned as well as defective or expired item
- Liaise with QA and supplier to ensure products are returned or disposed of
- Confirm purchase order with invoice making sure quantity and price is correct
- Conduct monthly inventory counts and prepare monthly inventory reports on usage and purchases of Packaging components
- Miscellaneous duties as requested by management
Key Skills and Abilities
- 3-5+ years experience as Material Planner, Buyer or experience supplying materials and working with multiple vendors.
- Experience working with large volume of SKUs in packaging or raw materials is a must.
- Experience managing Vendor Relationships
- Experience supplying printed components or materials
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Experience with Fishbowl is an asset but not required
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiative, follow through on tasks, and work with minimal direction.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and follow-ups.
- Agile and proactive, with the ability to quickly pivot priorities as production schedules change and continuously monitor material availability to ensure uninterrupted production and avoid shortages.
- May require travel between sites from time to time, as required
- Advanced knowledge of excel
