The Work
Join our vibrant and forward-thinking commercial team as a Commercial Mortgage Underwriter! In this dynamic role, you'll be at the forefront of underwriting both CMHC-insured and conventional commercial mortgages. You'll navigate established policies and underwriting standards with creativity and precision, ensuring compliance while driving towards ambitious service goals and annual targets. Beyond underwriting, you'll engage in credit-related tasks, administrative responsibilities, and build strong networks with external business partners and internal teams.
- Innovative Underwriting and Analysis (60%): Dive into the exciting world of commercial credit facilities, underwriting loans ranging from $2.5 million to $150 million. Your keen eye for detail and innovative approach will ensure compliance with lending guidelines, while your recommendations will shape the future of our business. You'll ensure all lending criteria are met, and documentation is handled swiftly and efficiently.
- Dynamic Communication and Coordination (20%): Be the linchpin in our communication network, liaising daily with external partners and internal teams. Your ability to streamline processes and deliver exceptional customer service will be key to meeting funding deadlines and exceeding expectations.
- Efficient Time Management (10%): Master the art of time management, juggling multiple deals and ensuring all tasks are completed within prescribed deadlines. Your organizational skills will keep the workflow smooth and efficient.
- Strategic Administrative and Reporting Duties (10%): Take on crucial administrative and reporting tasks that support the department and company. Your insights and reports will be invaluable to Senior Management, driving strategic decisions and growth.
- Bilingualism is a plus.
- Proven underwriting skills with 4-5 years of commercial mortgage experience.
- A track record of service excellence in the field.
- Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) preferred, ideally in business or finance.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A sharp business sense and deep technical knowledge of secured lending and the commercial mortgage market.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
- Enthusiasm for attending industry-related events and staying ahead of market trends.
